A few of our team members Shahram Heidari, Gideon Gyohannes, P. Eng. and Fariborz Vakili, recently attended the Deep Foundations Institute’s 49th Annual Conference in Aurora, Colorado, focused on the theme Water—Resiliency—Infrastructure. The conference, held from October 7 to 10, 2024, featured technical sessions on critical topics such as deep foundation advancements, groundwater management, and evolving practices in national and local codes. This was a valuable opportunity for professional growth, learning, and networking, as the event brought together experts from around the world to discuss innovative solutions and share insights on infrastructure resiliency.

Excavation shoring construction for The Georgian (227 Gerrard Street East) by Stafford, has completed, and the shoring monitoring program is in progress! Construction of the building is going well, and is still on the underground levels.

We are happy to have worked with Menkes Developments Ltd. on their project The Whitfield (co-developed with Core Development Group), located at 176-178 Front Street East and 33 Sherbourne Street (northeast corner of Front and Sherbourne)! Designed with interlocking cutoff caisson wall all around and rock anchors for lateral support, this project had many interesting features, including but not limited to: constructing NEAR AND UNDER a heritage façade; constructing adjacent to existing buildings with existing shoring; and temporarily supporting a construction staging slab. Both the shoring construction and shoring monitoring program have been completed.

Shoring construction is underway for Union City, a development by Metropia! It is keeping our monitoring team engaged and hard at work! On top of being involved in the shoring monitoring and tieback testing, they are also involved in the train track monitoring of the train tracks next to the site.

We're excited to collaborate with Carriage Gate/Legacy Constructors on Roxboro, a community in the McQuesten neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario. It will be built in phases. We've collaborated on 2 phases so far, and hope to collaborate on the rest! A partnership of UrbanCore Developments Inc. , Carriage Gate/Legacy Constructors , and the Effort Group, this mixed-use community will comprise of affordable market units, units for seniors and small households, rental suites with capped rents, and an affordable rental building owned and operated by CityHousing Hamilton. We are glad that there will be more affordable housing in the country/province for more residents! (Photos below are of Phase 3, the first phase we collaborated on.)

We're excited to be a part of the team for Edge Towers in Mississauga with Solmar Development Corp! It has been constructed in 3 phases, with shoring and excavation completed for Phase 3 already! Construction of the building (for this phase) is in progress. (Pictures below illustrate shoring, prior to construction of the building.) The shoring employed shotcrete and soil nails, to support the excavation down to the sound rock.
