🎉 Announcing our Ellen Ross Stuart Award recipients: Shaharah Gaznabbi and Sydney Scott! 🎉 This prize is awarded to emerging creators and young-in-craft playwrights. ✨ The Ellen Ross Stuart Award celebrates the legacy of Ellen ‘Nel’ Ross Stuart. We will host Sydney and Shaharah here at Tarragon for a year-long development pathway that aims to deepen their craft as a playwright and nurture their skill development as an arts professional. ✨ Shaharah Gaznabbi (they/them) is an ACTRA Actor, Playwright, and Comedian currently pursuing a BFA in Playwriting & Devised Theatre in York University’s Theatre program. They were part of this year's cohorts for Tarragon Theatre's Young Playwrights Unit, and Nightwood Theatre's Innovators Program. Shaharah performed their Solo-Show “What Can-Indian Look Like? Can It Look Caribbean?” at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and received The Neurodiverse Review’s Birds of Paradise Theatre Emerging Talent Award. They have recently made their television debut in season 3 of CBC’s Run the Burbs. Shaharah is so grateful, and very excited to foster community through this incredible Residency. ✨ Sydney Scott is a trans-disciplinary artist from Toronto. Their first play, the titty play, is a maximalist exploration of how the male gaze constructs femininity, from the perspective of sentient titties. the titty play received awards from Playwright’s Guild of Canada, Hart House Theatre, and was shortlisted by Toronto Fringe. Current projects include flip flop, a sticky depiction of queer adolescent sexuality set in a pool. flip flop is supported by Hart House Theatre, the Canonbury Foundation, and Outside the March. With Tarragon, Sydney is investigating the blurry lines of responsibility, memory, and politics in a new play about a trans student who passes away before coming out to their family. 🔥 Congratulations Shaharah and Sydney! 🌟 We also extend congratulations to our runners-up for this award: Kelsi James, Helen Ho, Geneva Noppers, Stephanie Zeit, and Summer Mahmud. 🌟

Playwrighting course application deadline extended! ⏰ Apply before this Sunday November 3 at 11:59pm for Diane Flacks' next course at Tarragon: Getting Unstuck. ✏️ If you have an idea that you need to talk through, or a completed script that you can’t seem to crack, this workshop will tend to what ails you. 🩺 Think of it as a visit to a playwriting doctor, who will help you to diagnose your issues, and start to find a way to confront them, all with a positivity, gentleness, and precision. 🌟 Diane Flacks is an Emmy, Gemini and Dora nominated writer/performer. Tarragon audiences will have most recently seen Diane in her latest solo show, 'Guilt (A Love Story)'. 🗓️ The course runs over two weekends, Nov 23-24, and Nov 30-Dec 1, 10am – 3:30pm each day.
