Amigos do Chá | https://lnkd.in/gbAECjMp | Brazil is a vast beverage market with a well-established tradition of tea and herbal infusions. Coffee and yerba mate dominate, but at-home tea is projected to generate $8 billion in sales this year, and restaurant, delivery, and takeaway tea sales will add $6 billion more. Growth is powered by evolving health and wellness trends that favor diverse and distant teas and blends. Conversations among young, urban consumers seeking healthier lifestyles now center on origins, styles, and functionality. Low-calorie, preservative-free beverages are associated with relaxation and well-being. | Editor Aravinda Anantharaman interviews veteran importer and retailer Elizeth van der Vorst. Her business, Amigos do Chá (Friends of Tea), is located near São Paulo, the hub of specialty tea, a market she has served for 30 years. | Aravinda Anantharaman | Tea Biz Blog | Podcast | Ep 190 | #brazil #tea #blacktea #greentea

Price Setter or Price Taker? | Twenty years ago, Thaleon Tremaine was recruited by coffee growers who were determined to capture value along the entire supply chain. The 400,000 smallholders they represent decided to be price setters. The grower's cooperatives paid themselves a sustainable threshold, guaranteeing a living wage at the farm gate. They then pooled their resources to finance Sacramento, Calif.-based Pachamama Coffee cooperative to import, wholesale, roast, market, and exclusively retail THEIR coffee. Pachamama retail outlets in North America and origin countries generate millions in sales with high returns featuring expertly roasted and packaged smallholder coffee priced at a premium. Tea cooperatives could do the same. | Episode 189 | Dan Bolton | https://lnkd.in/gjX_Pz4t

"When asked what the key to a successful blend is, the first word that comes to mind is “love,” love of the plant, and love of the producer, from which stems a desire always to enhance the products and never distort them," says Jeremy TAMEN, #UNESCO Tea Expert and master blender, in the latest #TeaJourney story by our writer in France, Anne-Frédérique Dedeyan Dayraut The link to the story is here https://lnkd.in/gnCwbBdN

"Right from the tea workers who pluck the bud at the crack of dawn to the manager of the tea estates who still live in a time-warp in their colonial bungalows, laal saah rules the roost from morning to sunset. But don’t be fooled by its outwardly egalitarian existence—it is only a ruse. If one is inclined to look hard, then the differences unravel themselves." writes Tanushree Bhowmik. Read her story, Laal Saah in Assam, from our On a Chai Trail series. Other stories in the series are The Parsi Choi by Kurush Dalal & The Bengali and their Cha by Rhea Mitra Dalal.
