Nuclear Medicine Europe has been contacted by medical facilities in the EU and US regarding the current global supply of Mo-99 which has been negatively impacted by an unscheduled outage of the HFR reactor in the Netherlands leading to the likely cancellation of the scheduled production cycle. As a result, the supply chain of this critical #radioisotope has been disrupted, impacting medical facilities that rely on Tc-99m for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
Nuclear Medicine Europe works closely with reactor operators to align their production schedules in order to ensure the supply of Mo-99. Our role is to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss common interests, monitor radioisotope production, and ensure transparent communication between all parties involved in the supply chain.

In the event of a disruption in Mo-99 production, the Nuclear Medecine Europe Emergency Response Team (ERT), comprised of representatives from reactor operators and Tc-99m generator producers convenes promptly to address the issue. These meetings focus on potentially realigning reactor schedules if feasible or other measures to mitigate impact on based on patient care.
Outcomes from every ERT meeting are communicated to the European Observatory, a joint initiative between the Euratom Supply Agency and Nuclear Medicine Europe, and are distributed thereafter. These updates are crucial in keeping all stakeholders informed of progress and developments.
Tc-99m generator suppliers around the world have already informed their customers about the situation and are the best source of information on day-day supply.
