𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 Every October, The Denise House joins Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies to raise awareness about the importance of supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families through the Dress Purple Day campaign. As part of this year’s campaign, The Ontario Association of Chirdren's Aid Society wrote an open letter to Premier Ford on behalf of organizations dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families across the province. They are calling on the Ontario government to take immediate action to ensure community-based organizations and service providers across the province have adequate resources to respond to the needs of children, youth, and families. Click to learn more and read the open letter. https://lnkd.in/g_pcfhCR Let's ALL Ontarians wear something purple today to show children, youth, and families that we are here to help! #Dresspurpleday #WeDressPurpleBecause #ChildrenMatter #loveshouldnthurt💜 #thedenisehousedurham

In 17% of femicides this year, the relationship details have not been confirmed/provided through media reports or police disclosure, however, have been reported to not be random but rather targeted killings. Femicide inquest recommendations have been constructed over the past 30 years and have sought to address risk factors among victims and aggressors, increase system collaboration/responses and to prevent the escalation of violence through various intervention and prevention initiatives. Despite recommendations to establish a provincial committee to monitor and evaluate the implementation of past inquest recommendations, no such body exists in Ontario. The rates of femicide in Ontario continue to remain high, with at least one femicide occurring every week, highlighting the need for a greater response to address the current rates of gender-based violence and prevent future deaths from occurring. The creation of a provincial-wide committee to track and evaluate progress and successes within these recommendations should be an integral component within the province’s plan to ensure more lives are not lost in preventable femicides."
