At ICGAN, Games Institute, Univeristy of Waterloo presenting research on VR onboarding studies with Pejman Mirza-Babaei, Isaac Taylor Hamed Tadayyoni and Fabian Gualdron. Also supporting coauthored presentations on developing an XR vaginal delivery sim with a custom made 3D printed user input device with Fabian Gualdron and David Rojas. Finally, VR reminiscence with Winnie Sun, and Sara Elgazzar.

About a year ago, I ran a couple of VR studies, and one of them just received a Best Paper Award at IEEE VR, which is exciting ☺️ For this, I have to thank my collaborators: Federica Gini, Anchit M. (a UW PhD student and a VR/AI developer), Nick Bowman, Brendan Rooney, PhD, and Lennart Nacke—and special thanks to the The Games Institute for the lovely space and support. I can't attend the conference myself, but if you're there, in France, you can catch my video presentation on Tuesday during the Perception and Cognition (9 - B) session. Emily Grace Buck has joined us for the LAST keynote address of #ICGAN2025 for her talk “I’m Batman: Centering Player Agency in Beloved IP.” In her talk, Emily recounts her experience in working with believed franchises like Batman and the difficulties in adapting such a well known character into games. She highlights aspects like adapting tone and how that compares to the target audience for the game. Creating things like a style guide can go a long way at ensuring there is consistency across a project’s life. #ICGAN25 #uwaterloo #thegamesinstitute #interdisciplinaryresearch #researchimpact
