Thank you MPP Catherine Fife for the certificate celebrating our 20 full years of theatrical work. The community’s response to our anniversary has been so lovely and we are thankful for the recognition.  We held a screening last week of a documentary covering the first ever IMPACT theatre festival in 2009. It was great to connect with some of the people that were there during the first IMPACT. The response to the screening was so positive that we might have to bring it back again!   We want to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Celebrate the communal power of storytelling with "We Belong: An X Page Workshop Performance."    Based on Lynda Barry’s teaching philosophy, “The X Page” is the opposite of a blank page. It’s the space where we enter an image using all of our senses. Fourteen refugee and immigrant women living in Waterloo Region used the X Page exercise over the course of a 12-week writing and performance workshop to develop a personal narrative. With the guidance of local professional artists, they've taken their stories from the page to the stage and are ready to share their stories with our community.    Join us in affirming our sense of belonging at The Registry Theatre on Sunday, June 16th at 3 P.M. Light refreshments will follow the performance.    Registration is required for this event. Thank you to Waterloo Region Community Foundation for inviting us to speak at their volunteer event this week! It was such a great opportunity to connect with other organizations in the region who are also doing important equity work.  A consistent theme we noticed during the presentations was the lack of space necessary to do the work. We look forward to further connecting with everyone on how we can support each other in opening and activating existing spaces and making them accessible. MT Space has been a recommender on the grant for several years now, and it's never easy to narrow down all the amazing entries we get. Thank you to everyone who submitted. It was such a lovely night for TELL! Here are some highlights of the evening. We’re also continuing with National Volunteer Appreciation Week with a visit from Fanny Villarte-Croce! We were so happy that Fanny was able to stop by our TELL! event on Tuesday in between her busy schedule of community work. Fanny is one of the board members of MT Space and ever a delight to be around. On top of that, she’s been with us since the beginning. One of the first ones to support us. For 20 years, she’s stuck by MT Space through its creation; through every IMPACT festival; through the pandemic to now. Here’s to 20 years of MT Space and 20 years of Fanny Villarte-Croce.
