📸 October Image of the Month 📸 Captured by: Karpagavalli Subramanian from Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India Captured with: Topcon photo slit lamp These images capture a patient with mild keratoconus fitted with an RGP lens showing dimple veiling (Image A) due to a steep lens fit with a 7.30mm base curve. After adjusting the fit by flattening the base curve to 7.40mm, an optimal fit is achieved, and the dimple veiling disappears (Image B). Dimple veiling, also referred to as corneal depressions, is a condition where semi-hemispheric deformations form on the corneal epithelium due to the mechanical compression of trapped air bubbles under the contact lens. These bubbles can often be trapped near the periphery of the lens. This condition is generally asymptomatic, but when the bubbles are numerous, larger, and located centrally, patients may experience a reduction in vision. 📷 IACLE Members: Be sure to submit your clinical images to be featured in our Image of the Month and for the chance to win the Image of the Year for 2024. #ClinicalImage #ImageOfTheMonth #ContactLensEducation #ContactLenses #IACLE

📸 August Image of the Month 📸 Captured by: MANJU BALAKRISHNAN from Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India Captured with: Topcon photo slit lamp This image captures lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD), an inherited eye disorder marked by amyloid deposits that progressively impair vision. These deposits form lattice-like opacities, primarily in the central cornea, and are radically oriented with gradual superficial corneal clouding. Recurrent epithelial erosions are common. A patient with Type-I LCD, fitted with scleral lenses (SL), experienced vision improvement from 6/45 to 6/12 and reduced photophobia. Scleral lenses have proven highly effective for corneal dystrophies, offering superior vision and comfort. Given epithelial erosions, scleral lenses are preferred over rigid corneal lenses. 📷 IACLE Members: Be sure to submit your clinical images to be featured in our Image of the Month and for the chance to win the Image of the Year for 2024. #ClinicalImage #ImageOfTheMonth #ContactLensEducation #ContactLenses #IACLE

📸 May Image of the Month 📸 Captured by: Karpagavalli B.S. Opt, FCL, FIACLE, FSLS (FIACLE), Medical Research Foundation at the Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India Captured with: Topcon DC 4 Photo slit lamp A 24-year-old male presented with complaints of blurred vision, discomfort, and tissue growth over the cornea in his left eye. Slit lamp examination of the left eye revealed a combination of three ocular conditions: Pterygium, Sutural Cataract, and Trichiasis. Treatment with a well-centered Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lens improved his vision from 6/36 to 6/12. The patient was recommended to undergo pterygium excision and epilation of the eyelashes to further address his symptoms. 📷 IACLE Members: Be sure to submit your clinical images to be featured in our Image of the Month and for the chance to win the Image of the Year for 2024. #ClinicalImage #ImageOfTheMonth #ContactLensEducation #ContactLenses #IACLE
