Great post about the cost of full-company meetups! 37Signals runs on the higher end of the cost range, primarily due to the length of their offsite, which spans a full week. This makes sense for a fully distributed team flying into one location, bringing the cost to around $5K per attendee. At Townish, we often see local offsites costing around $1.5K-$2K per attendee (sometimes less) for 3-4 days. This makes the comparison to office space much more favorable, as offices typically cost around $5K-$10K per employee per year

So, we do these full-company meetups twice a year in different cities around the world. We fly everyone in, we hang out for a week. People are often curious how much these cost, what we budget, how different cities compare. Here's a look at real numbers from the last 6 meetups across the US, Europe, and Canada. Company size varied a bit from Miami - Montreal, so it's not truly apples to apples overall, but we also break it down by person to equalize it. Hope this is helpful.

Remote is great and comes with many advantages. But! It’s important to not completely neglect the in person time. Top reasons: 👉 Performance - Researchers have found that in-person communication is the most effective method of communication and accounts for 35 percent of the variation in team performance. 👉 Motivation - 89% of participants in offsites and retreats reported feeling more motivated to work with colleagues after participating in team-building activities 👉 Building & maintaining relationship - 95% of people believed that face-to-face meetings were essential to building and maintaining long-term business relationships 👉 Bridging cultural differences - 93% of respondents felt that these type of meetings are critical to bridging cultural differences 👉 Creativity - research has shown that getting to a third place (not home nor office) enhances creativity already, as new environments foster creativity Follow me for more on how Townish solves this!

I hate seeing boring corporate offsites, and now I’ve got some data to back this up! Everyone on Instagram knows that the demand for experiences is reshaping travel, but the interesting part is that it's now moving from consumer travel into corporate offsites and retreats. According to a recent report by Skift and McKinsey & Company, spending on travel experiences has grown by 65% since 2019, and the market for experiences is expected to surpass $1 trillion. But companies has employees, and these employees are also consumers. And they are now realizing that offsites and retreats need to offer more than just a new location - they need to deliver cool and memorable experiences. Teams don’t just want to gather; they want to connect and grow. And as usual, Gen Z is leading the way (52% of Gen Zers say they splurge on experiences, compared to only 29% of baby boomers). At Townish, we’ve embraced this shift by curating offsites that go beyond the ordinary. They don’t have to be expensive, but they do have to be cool - the kind that the team keeps bragging about afterward! #offsites #retreats
