The way we power our homes, businesses and essential services is at a critical juncture. Canadians are rightly focused on ensuring our energy is reliable, affordable and sustainable as we work toward a net-zero future. In my recent op-ed in the National Post and Calgary Herald, I discuss the progress we've made in transitioning to a cleaner electricity grid, as well as the challenges that remain. As demand for electricity continues to grow, we need a balanced approach that ensures reliability and affordability are at the forefront of the conversation. Together, we can achieve a net-zero grid, but it will require time and collaboration to get there. At TransAlta, we are proud of the work we have done to date to reduce emissions from our sector and look forward to continuing to play a role as we move forward. I invite you to read the full article to learn more about my perspective on the future of energy in Canada. https://lnkd.in/gnHq5rKm

We appreciated the opportunity for our CEO, John Kousinioris, to engage in a thoughtful discussion with Rob Nicholson from RBC Capital Markets during the Energy Disruptors Conference in Calgary. Their conversation delved into the complex challenges and opportunities facing power markets in the US, Canada, and Australia, particularly regarding rising demands from data centers. Navigating these dynamics requires a careful balance of reliability, sustainability, and affordability. TransAlta is strategically positioned to contribute meaningfully to this ongoing dialogue as we leverage our existing fleet and growth strategy. Thank you to RBC Capital Markets and the conference organizers for fostering an environment that encouraged this important, open, and innovative discussion. It was inspiring to witness the optimism, practicality, and innovation among private sector, government, investors, and industry leaders as we collectively advance toward a sustainable energy future.

We're thrilled to celebrate 25 years of the "Get Growing Garden" project by the TransAlta Retiree Association (TARA), addressing food insecurity in Calgary. Since 1999, TARA retirees have donated over 700,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Calgary Food Bank. This year's harvest was exceptional, with six original volunteers honoured for their 25 years of commitment. Let's keep growing and making a difference! 🌱

We're honored to have partnered with the Diamond Willow Youth Lodge and we admire their unwavering commitment to empowering Indigenous youth. Participating in the Tea Dance Ceremony, a meaningful tradition symbolizing unity, respect and community, was truly a privilege. As the first donor recognized in the Legacy of Relatives program, we're grateful to have the opportunity to support their inspiring mission.

TransAlta is making history as United Way of Calgary and Area’s first $1M+ donor to Diamond Willow Youth Lodge, underscoring their commitment to Indigenous youth and their journey toward healing, well-being and future success. Yesterday, a special Tea Dance Ceremony was held to officially announce and recognize TransAlta for their remarkable multi-year commitment and investment in Calgary’s future.    Since opening in 2018, Diamond Willow Youth Lodge has provided a safe, welcoming and inclusive gathering place for Indigenous youth (aged 12-29) to participate in programs, access services and deepen their connection to Indigenous culture. The number of youth accessing the Lodge has been steadily increasing year-over-year, demonstrating the important need this space is fulfilling in Calgary and area. Thanks to TransAlta’s forward-looking generosity – and the generosity of other like-minded individuals and companies, including support through our Community Impact Fund – the Lodge is able to uplift Calgary youth in unleashing their creativity, developing their leadership capabilities and making positive connections with peers, family and the wider community.    We are proud to stand with Miskanawah CSA as a funding partner of Diamond Willow Youth Lodge.
