  • Alberta’s visitor economy is thriving! From January to September 2024, visitor spending hit $11.5 billion, nearly 10% growth over the same period in 2023. With a $13.4 billion target for the year, we’re on track to exceed expectations. Alberta isn’t just exceeding our own visitor spend goal, we are leading the country. With 10% growth, we’ve outpaced major provinces like British Columbia (-1%), Ontario (2%), Quebec (6%), and the national average of 3%. These numbers prove that Alberta has what travellers want and that the Government of Alberta's Higher Ground strategy is driving real results.

  • Last month, our International Markets team welcomed travel trade partners from around the world to this year's Immersive Marketplace so they could experience the best of Alberta’s winter firsthand! Through authentic exploration of Edmonton, Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise, Canmore, and Calgary, we showcased our province's top experiences while fostering connections between trade partners and industry suppliers. Additionally, we hosted two full-day marketplaces with sellers from all over Alberta so our travel trade partners could connect directly with Alberta tourism operators to create or strengthen partnerships. These events play a vital role in equipping our travel trade partners with the knowledge and inspiration to promote Alberta itineraries to travellers in key global markets. Travel trade remains a crucial channel for reaching international visitors, and this year’s Immersive Marketplace was a resounding success in strengthening those connections. • Tourism thrives when diverse voices, ideas, and leadership come together. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're celebrating the incredible Indigenous women shaping Alberta’s visitor economy by leading businesses, creating unforgettable experiences, and driving innovation in our industry. From entrepreneurs and communicators to knowledge keepers and community leaders, these incredible women are vital in making Alberta a world-class destination.   DYK: Alberta was the only Canadian destination featured in National Geographic's top places to travel in 2023 because of the inspiring Indigenous tourism experiences found across the province. It is because of dedicated women like Brenda Holder, Wendy Poseluzny, Monique C., and other Indigenous leaders who continue to share their cultures with travellers that Alberta continues to be a top destination.
