Introducing our new "Approved" series! 🏡 TULLOCH's Sudbury Planning team has been busy helping our clients secure approvals for three key residential developments. Led by our team of Planners, with support from the rest of our multidisciplinary team, these initiatives will enhance our communities with more accessibility to housing. Here's a look at three recent project wins: 🔷 St. Bernadette School Conversion: Renovations to the former school are set to begin soon, transforming it into 20 residential units, with occupancy expected by the end of next year. Plans for an additional 54 housing units are in the works, pending wastewater capacity approvals. We're providing land use planning, civil site design, and surveying. 🔷 Falconbridge LTC Conversion: With Falconbridge residents relocated to a new LTC building on Algonquin Rd. (also a TULLOCH project), this building will temporarily house Cambrian College's international students before transitioning into a 120-room hotel. Our role includes land use planning and surveying. 🔷 10 Dwelling Units in Chelmsford: This project involves rezoning to develop ten new residential units. We are supporting the client with land use planning, civil site design, and surveying. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to help shape our communities! #TULLOCHPlanning #CommunityGrowth #HousingDevelopments #LandUsePlanning #CivilEngineering #LandSurveying

The Huntsville community has rallied behind Jimmy Joys Music Room, a beloved non-profit venue supporting local artists, as its founders work to meet town and railway requirements to reopen. This unique space has hosted casual concert nights in their garage, fostering a deep connection with local musicians and residents. The Town of Huntsville closed the venue due to zoning and safety concerns, including a request from CN Railway to conduct a rail crossing assessment since the property is beside an "uncontrolled" railway. This assessment, along with potential safety measures, could cost the applicants up to $200,000. Despite these challenges, public support has been overwhelming. At a recent planning meeting, seven members of the public took the microphone to voice their support, with the gallery bursting into applause after each speaker finished. Robert G., a burgeoning national media celebrity, Land Use Planner from TULLOCH, and volunteer at Jimmy Joys, described it as "a special place, something like nothing else, an innovation in a sense" emphasizing the importance of the venue to the community. What do you think? Should more communities prioritize local cultural venues like Jimmy Joys? https://lnkd.in/e8PTfVDE #CommunitySupport #LiveMusic #JimmyJoysMusicRoom #Huntsville #LocalVenues

Project Spotlight: One Ten Pim Apartment Development! The transformation at 110 Pim Street in Sault Ste Marie is progressing beautifully, with much of the exterior already complete and interior finishing expected to continue until 2025 when the building will be move-in ready. This new 5-story, 108-unit apartment building replaces Tara Hall and brings to life the Perzia Group's 20-year vision, led by SalDan Construction Group in collaboration with many local contractors and consultants. Built out of ICF, with energy-efficient designs, triple-glazed windows, EV parking chargers, and a façade reminiscent of the original Tara Hall, this project symbolizes "a phoenix rising from the ashes" as it contributes to the ongoing revitalization of downtown Sault Ste. Marie. In support of this effort, the federal government announced $25 million in funding for the development back in May. TULLOCH is proud to have been part of this project since 2019, providing: 🔹Civil site design and municipal servicing 🔹Geotechnical investigations and reporting 🔹Excess soils management 🔹Construction monitoring and inspections 🔹Materials testing 🔹Structural design of ancillary buildings Thank you to our friends at SalDan for providing some of the pictures. We look forward to seeing this project completed and welcoming new residents in 2025! #HousingDevelopment #TULLOCHProjects #CommunityCollaboration #CivilEngineering #SaultSteMarie #RevitalizingSSM #BuildingOurFuture #TaraHallLegacy #ShapingSaultSteMarie

Repost from TULLOCH's Sayan Mondal: "This summer with TULLOCH has been a valuable learning experience, and I’m excited to share my first post about our Highway 11 Contract Administration project as the season wraps up. We worked with two types of ditches: geodetic earth ditches and standard earth ditches. For geodetic ditches, we excavated a V-shaped trench, installed geotextile and riprap (following OPSS 511), while standard ditches involved topsoil and seeding (following OPSS 802, 803, and 804). Understanding materials and their real-world applications was a key takeaway, and having access to TULLOCH's specialists for guidance made a huge difference. Throughout the project, I observed various culvert installations using HDPE and CSP pipes, with specific granular layers: GRAN B Type 2 as the base for flexible pipes, and GRAN A on top, with different configurations for rigid pipes. We adhered to OPSS 421 for pipe culverts and OPSS 501 and 314 for compaction standards. The support and knowledge from my Contract Administrator and the environmental specialists were invaluable, always ready to provide insights when needed. It’s been great working in such a collaborative environment where help is readily available!"

TULLOCH's North Bay office held a Thanksgiving food drive turkey raffle this past week. The entire office came together to collect donations for the North Bay food bank, with the raffle winner receiving a 15lb turkey raised and donated by Jason Kelsall. In total, our team donated 64lbs of food and $307 in cash donations. The entire office took part and really got into the giving spirit.  Jimmy (James Lisk), one of our surveyors, won the turkey! #NorthBayFoodBank #Thanksgiving #CommittedtoCommunity

TULLOCH at the Engineering Means Community Forum! We were proud to sponsor, attend and speak at the Engineering Means Community Forum. It was an inspiring day filled with dialogue, learning, and meaningful discussions on topics critical to our industry. A special highlight was seeing TULLOCH CEO and ACEC-ON Chair, Mark Tulloch, join the Indigenous Relations Panel alongside long-time partner and friend, Chief Jason Gauthier of Missanabie Cree First Nation. Together, and alongside the other panelists, they shared practical insights on fostering strong relationships with Indigenous communities. A big thank you to Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Ontario (ACEC-Ontario) for organizing this fantastic event. Thank you to all the sponsors, speakers, and attendees who made the day a success! #TULLOCHCommunity #EngineeringMeansCommunity #IndigenousRelations #WomenInEngineering #ConsultingEngineering #ACECON

TULLOCH at the 2024 Level Up Sudbury Event! We were happy to participate in the Level Up series last week in Sudbury, connecting with hundreds of students from grades 7-12 to explore the rewarding opportunities in the skilled trades. Our Environmental team hosted exciting hands-on activities where students examined sediment from a local creek, identified benthic macroinvertebrates, and analyzed what they could tell us about water quality. We also identified common Ontario baitfish like Creek Chub, White Sucker, Northern Redbelly Dace, and Common Shiner, and checked if they could legally be used as baitfish in the province. Our Geomatics team also showcased land surveying equipment and technologies, giving students an inside look at what a land surveyor's job entails and how they contribute to the infrastructure of our communities. Later in the evening, students returned with their parents to discuss career opportunities at TULLOCH and the educational pathways that could lead them to a future with us. It was a fun and engaging day, and we're proud to help Ontario's youth discover their potential in technical fields and the skilled trades! #LevelUp2024 #SkilledTrades #FutureOfOntario #EnvironmentalScience #LandSurveying #TULLOCHCareers #Sudbury
