To understand the impact of #climatechange on costal communities and ecologies of the Saint-Lawrence Gulf, the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape conducted a 10-day field trip during the month of October, in Gaspésie, New-Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Led by Shin Koseki, holder of the UNESCO Chair, the group was composed of ten masters students coming from the Faculty of Environmental Design at the Université de Montréal. Based on ethnographic methods, the field trip departed from Montreal to reach Métis-sur-mer, Bathurst, Miramichi, Lamèque and Miscou Islands, Kouchibouguac National Park, Charlottetown, St-Peter's Bay, North Rustico, Cavendish, Grand Tricadie and Lennox Island Fiesta Nation. 👉🏻 The trip was organized in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, the Canadian Center for Climate Change Adaptability and the Faculty of Sustainable Design at the University of Prince Edward Island, the field trip was funded by UdeM International and the Fonds de recherche du Québec. 📸 Roxane Kasprzyk (2024)

🎉 New funding for the Landscape of Risks project! Led by researchers in urban planning, social sciences, and natural sciences, and in collaboration with local organizations, the project "Landscape of Risks: Histories, Experiments, and Climate Prospects in the Bas-Saint-Laurent" aims to develop various prospective scenarios, inspire ongoing local experiments, and imagine climate solutions in the context of coastal erosion. This research-creation project led by Prof. Shin Koseki and Emile Forest, focuses on documenting landscape experiments and ongoing ecological restoration strategies in the Métis and Rimouski-Neigette regions, developing planning scenarios to address the challenges of erosion, as well as evaluating potential planning strategies; all taken from an ecological, legislative, and economic perspectives. The project will hence contribute to rethinking the role of local experiments in mitigating climate change and exploring relationships between humans and non-humans. 📷 Emile Forest (2024)

🎉Save the Date! The UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape presents its first exhibition from the UNESCO studio in Phnom Penh in May 2024. Originally presented at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Cambodia, it is now being recreated at the University of Montreal. Entitled “Phnom Penh against the current” explores the fluid relationship between the city’s humans and non-human inhabitants and the mighty waters of its rich hydrographic basin. This original showcase presents ten “sangkats” (neighborhoods) through a collection of artifacts and projects that reflect the interlaced points of view and aspirations of local and global youth. 🗓️From October 10 to 17 📍Faculty of Environmental Design entrance hall
