When you give to United Way, you're not just making a donation—you're offering hope to neighbours, families and friends who need it most. Hope exists in many ways—a counsellor comforting a woman in pain, hands sharing donated basic needs items, the healing act of wiping away tears and more. Through Hope Is In Your Hands, we're shining a light on the responsibility we share to change lives and shape a better Calgary for everyone. The economic challenges of recent years have shown us that anyone can find themselves in need, often unexpectedly. United, we hold the future of our community in our hands. ❤️ We are very grateful for several of our partner agencies who allowed us to film and capture the work they do in serving our communities every day. A big thank you to WINS (Women In Need Society), Distress Centre Calgary, Calgary Counselling Centre and the Sunalta Community Association for ensuring we represent the essence of their work that fuels our mission. #HopeIsInYourHandsYYC #JointheMovement

This week, we honour the legacy of Murray Sinclair, an extraordinary leader whose dedication, courage and tireless advocacy changed the course of history in Canada. As the Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, as well as being a respected lawyer, judge and senator, Murray Sinclair’s work brought to light truths that paved the way for meaningful conversations and actions toward reconciliation. His profound contributions reshaped the national dialogue surrounding Indigenous relations, opening hearts and minds to the necessity of awareness, understanding and justice. His legacy continues to inspire, informing the efforts of countless organizations committed to equity and inclusivity. At United Way, his influence is deeply felt through our Akak’stiman Strategy—a multi-generational approach that guides our business practices, Indigenous-focused investments and partnerships with Indigenous communities. His vision laid the groundwork for strategies like these, reminding us that reconciliation is not just a goal but an ongoing commitment to building a more just and inclusive society. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and the many communities that mourn this tremendous loss. Let us carry forward his legacy, united in our pursuit of truth and reconciliation. This November, we observe Family Violence Prevention Month, a critical time to raise awareness and stand together against family violence. With Alberta having one of the highest rates of spousal violence, our communities play a vital role in supporting change. By understanding the warning signs and knowing where to turn for help, we can help prevent family violence and foster safer, healthier relationships. If you or someone you know needs support, resources are available, including the 24/7 Family Violence Info Line at 310-1818 and finding support at 211. Let’s unite for a safer Alberta.
