Can self-driving cars see around corners? 🚙 Professor Waslander and his team at UTIAS are developing a new kind of AI for self-driving cars. This AI, called SWTrack, can predict what pedestrians and cyclists will do next, even when they are hidden from sight. SWTrack uses information from the past five seconds to create a better picture of what's going on around the car, allowing it to make safer decisions. You might want to learn about Canada's first fully student-funded and student-developed satellite mission, HERON Mk. II. ✨ On November 11, 2023, HERON Mk. II, a 3U CubeSat built by University of Toronto Aerospace Team (UTAT), Space Systems division, soared into space aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Witnessing the culmination of years of hard work, Benjamin Nero (#UTIAS MASc candidate) shared the experience as HERON's mission manager as “surreal”. This achievement involved over 100 students. Despite challenges, the team was undeterred to fulfill HERON Mk. II’s primary mission: to demonstrate UTAT’s radio communications capabilities, while secondary objectives are to include validating the structural, thermal, power, and computing system designs. 🛰️ The journey continues with HERON's ground-breaking success paving the way for UTAT's next mission, FINCH, set to launch in late 2025. 🌐 Learn more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gB_35Jgg Photo courtesy of SpaceX
