Just wrapped up the Dare to Lead™ program with Diane Lloyd MA PCC CEC through Inspired Results Group, and I’m feeling incredibly inspired! Huge thanks to Diane for her exceptional facilitation and to the group for their vulnerability and willingness to engage in courageous conversations. 🌟 Throughout the program, I jotted down quotes that resonated deeply - both personally and for the leaders we train and coach. Here are a few nuggets of wisdom: ✨ "Embrace the suck!" ✨ "Stop being a fitter-inner." ✨ "Self-awareness and self-love matter." ✨ "Courage is contagious." ✨ "We must build cultures where armour is neither needed nor rewarded." ✨ "It's not fear that gets in our way of leadership, it's armour." ✨ "[In bad workplace cultures], rather than serving the heart, we sever it.” ✨ "Daring leaders are never quiet about hard things." ✨ "Get clear on whose opinions of you matter. Today’s Dare to Lead session was a great reminder of the importance of understanding the true power of values - both personal and corporate. Here’s what stood out: 💡 If you don’t know your values and the specific behaviours that reflect them, they’re just empty words. 🔑 Values need to be turned into measurable, observable actions that we hold ourselves and others accountable for. 📊 Fewer than 10% of companies have actually operationalized their values into behaviours that are taught and upheld (per Brené Brown). 🚨 If your values can’t be seen or measured, it’s better not to claim them at all. 👥 This is the real challenge: Binding values to behaviours and making them come to life. “You can’t live into what you can’t name and describe.” ~ Brené Brown During the break, I took a walk to let these learnings really sink in, reflecting on how I can make my personal values even more visible in daily life. ✨ Questions to consider: - Do you know your core values? Today, I had the pleasure of leading a virtual training session for the entire team at Loren Nancke, Chartered Professional Accountants! As part of their annual performance management cycle, the goal was to set everyone up for success by preparing them for the annual review process. We focused on how to effectively review past performance and evaluate achievements while setting SMART goals for the upcoming year. We also covered the key components of their performance management cycle, highlighting the importance of each team member's role in the firm's overall success. It has been an absolute joy to work with this amazing firm and I feel privileged to have supported their training and provided HR consultancy over the past five years. Today marked our fifth module with the fantastic team at Lohn Caulder LLP, and the focus was on performance feedback - a crucial topic for any organization. It's essential not only to set clear performance expectations but also to hold people accountable to them. Often, leaders shy away from having difficult conversations with their employees out of fear they might leave. However, it's critical that we engage in these discussions - not only to give people a fair shot at improving their performance but also to show understanding and support that helps them grow and advance in their careers. We explored strategies for delivering feedback effectively, ensuring it's clear, constructive, and focused on growth. As always, this group came prepared and left with new learnings to apply in their roles. It’s always a breath of fresh air to work with such an incredible group of leaders!
