I'm excited to be speaking at next week's Vancouver.dev IRL event on Supercharging Developer Productivity in 2025, alongside Rahat Khanna and Toby Tobkin. Dev productivity is something I've been exploring extensively since 2013, and it goes far beyond just AI copilots and CI/CD pipelines. Whether you're at a startup, a digital agency, or part of a large tech company, this panel brings a wealth of experience to share insights on what truly works - and what’s just hype. ⬇️ What topics would you like us to cover? Let us know in the comments! Toki Hossain #VancouverDev #VancouverTech #Productivity

Where does Vancouver stand in tech productivity? San Francisco engineers reportedly get 13.9 months of work done in a year. The latest data puts SF at the top, with New York (80), London (77), and Toronto (76) trailing behind. But what does that actually mean? And how does Vancouver stack up? 💬 The Vancouver.dev take: → SF is the grind—people push hard, make money, and then move somewhere more chill. → Is productivity just shipping fast, or does quality matter? If you write 20 useless docs or ship buggy code, does that still count? → SF keeps poaching talent from places like Vancouver and Waterloo. The cycle feeds itself. → Some companies optimize for speed, but does that mean real impact, or just busy work? We’re digging into this at Vancouver.dev x atono IRL: Supercharging Dev Productivity in 2025. Panelists: Rahat Khanna – Engineering Lead @ Big Tech James Harrison – Founder @ Vast Technology Inc. Moderator: Toby Tobkin – Founding Engineer @ PermafrostAI, ex-Google Cloud AI - What’s your take? - Can Vancouver compete while keeping its balance, or does success always demand the grind? Drop your thoughts below👇 #VancouverDev #VancouverTech #Productivity

Great products aren’t built in sprints. They’re crafted, pixel by pixel. I overheard something along those lines at Monday’s Vancouver.dev panel, and it stuck with me. Tech teams talk a lot about speed—shipping fast, iterating quickly, staying lean. But in the rush to deliver, craft often gets lost. Building something remarkable isn’t just about writing code and shipping MVPs. It’s about: • Engineering & design working in sync • Perfecting the small details users never notice—until something feels off • Refining, tweaking, and elevating, not just delivering Speed matters. But execution without craft leads to forgettable products. The best products don’t just work—they feel right. Because the people who built them cared. What’s an app that nailed the little things? P.S. The photo is from the panel. Attending it reminded me how valuable it is to connect with the local tech community. Get out there and shake hands—you never know who you’ll meet.

🎉 Today I’m excited to announce Merchkit – a smart, vertical AI solution built to eliminate the tedious challenges of product information management for retail merchandising and ecom teams. After two years of hearing about endless copy-pasting, formatting fixes, and tedious Excel work, we built Merchkit to change how work gets done. Because when your product data is clean, every other task on your list becomes simpler. What Merchkit does today: • 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮: Our AI agents pull data from vendor spec sheets, intranets, and manufacturer websites. Updating and formatting it to your brand standards in real time. • 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Generate new product attributes in seconds. All standardized against your guidelines without manual data entry, inconsistent formatting, and error-prone Excel formulas.   • 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗽: Reformat your catalog and create tailored content for personalization campaigns and sales channels—all guided by you, without the grunt work. What Merchkit will do tomorrow: We’re building familiar, meaningful interfaces for merchandisers & ecom teams that let them focus on creative, strategic work. Letting AI do what it's good at and what it should be doing - removing the manual processes that get in the way of progress. Watch Rob Hayes walk you through our demo in this video. If you’re ready to remove manual processes from your team, from SKU onboarding to image standardization, reach out for a demo and see how Merchkit can transform your retail operations. Let's make work simpler and smarter. #commercetech #retailtech #marketplacetech #productlaunch
