  • At VCBIS, we recognize how important it is to include perspectives of survivors and their families in the brain injury recovery process. 🤝 That’s why we operate under the Person and Family Centered Care (PFCC) approach. 🩺 PFCC is founded on the understanding that family, biological and otherwise, can play a vital role in improving the health, well-being and recovery of participants. During PFCC, the participant defines the makeup of their “family” and determines how they will participate in their care. 🌳 There are many benefits to participating in PFCC, including: 🫶 Greater involvement of family and support systems’ in the recovery process 🌱 Improved participant functional outcomes, like independence and emotional well-being ☀️ Increased participant empowerment for better self-management 🔎 Check out our website to learn more about how we use PFCC: https://lnkd.in/dwXnHGcE #BrainInjuryAwareness #PersonCenteredCare #PFCC #BrainInjuries

They also are at a higher risk of experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal thoughts. 🧠 💬 This World Mental Health Day, we encourage you to check in with yourself and others you care about, and to remember you are not alone. 🖱️ Visit this link to find out more about mental health support and services available in Ontario: https://lnkd.in/eEyuizk #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #WMHD2024 #YouAreNotAlone

  • #DidYouKnow that concussions are the most common type of brain injury? 🧠 🔎 According to Statistics Canada, concussions account for 80 to 95 per cent of all traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), usually resulting from sports injuries, motor vehicle collisions and accidental falls. 🤕 63% of Canadians who reported being concussed in 2022 consulted with a health care practitioner within 48 hours of the incident. 🏥 Treating concussions soon after they happen is key to long-term recovery. 👩⚕️ This past September 17th was also World Patient Safety Day, highlighting the critical importance of correct and timely diagnosis in ensuring patient safety and improving health outcomes. 🩺 Learn more about World Patient Safety Day from the World Health Organization: https://lnkd.in/eSNin93A
