Accelerating Equity for Women in Finance
About us
As Canada’s largest network of women in finance, VersaFi is dedicated to providing a voice and platform for networking, mentorship, and development opportunities for its community of more than 4,000 members. Our role is to accelerate equity for women in finance. We do this in three key ways: by fostering a pipeline of talented women in the sector, at all career levels; by bringing together women in finance, with shared experiences and career goals, to provide opportunities for education and networking; and by working with the industry to address barriers, share best practices and strategies for progress, and implementing policies and practices to advance gender equity. Mentorship can make the world of difference in someone’s career. As highlighted in our Project Affinity report, many women working in Investment Banking lack the same mentorship opportunities — creating barriers to advancement in comparison to their male counterparts. Thank you to Sarah Bull for highlighting our report, and sharing the importance of having mentors who are invested in your success! If you work in any area of the finance sector, and are looking for career enrichment as a mentee or a mentor, VersaFi’s Professional Mentorship Program is now accepting applications till November 8! This program is complimentary to all VersaFi members, apply here: https://lnkd.in/eVczk6XE Read our full Project Affinity report to see more tangible recommendations on how to increase sponsorship: https://lnkd.in/gTGQ6suK
Early in my career, I was a mentor with VersaFi (formerly WCM) and it was a great experience. Recently, they released a report on women in the investment banking industry called “Project Affinity.” It’s no secret that this is a heavily male-dominated industry, and the retention of women is a challenge, so this type of work exploring why is important. One challenge noted in the report is lack of mentorship. Findings show that 63% of survey respondents in this industry report that they are less likely to receive the same level of mentorship as their male colleagues. VersaFi has included tangible approaches to improve this. I was fortunate to learn from some great mentors along the way who truly believed in my potential, one recently passed but a couple of others are still in my life today. Whether you’re just starting out or in a leadership position, having people in your corner who champion your advancement is one of the key ingredients to success.
