Had the opportunity to demonstrate vGIS AR to our project teams on site. It can overlay 3D models(design/existing) with reality as normally seen through the lenses of the iPad. It's a potentially useful tool that can aid project stakeholder discussions in visualizing the proposed design long before any works are commenced. Another function is it being a supplement to our GIS-powered permit-to-dig system to prevent service strikes during excavation that can cause work delays and unwanted cost implications. Bringing a tunnel into Highways UK as I test out the vGIS Inc. augmented reality app on the Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon stand 207 with technology specialist Darius Mirdamadi from MGISS. The vGIS app works with the FLX100 and GGO4 GNSS antennas from Leica Geosystems to achieve high levels of accuracy. And the great thing about the app is that it takes survey data and visualises it very simply for any user to take advantage of. So take a look at the tunnel and other utilities surveyed at the Leica Geosystems School in Shropshire and brought into the NEC.
