We understand that sound plays a crucial role in the driving experience. Our sound design team has been focused on refining the auditory elements of our vehicles to ensure they contribute positively to the overall experience. One of their projects involved updating the sound of our turn indicators. The previous high-frequency tick-tack sound was functional but had the unintended consequence of influencing the driver’s pace. Recognizing the need for a more harmonious sound, the team explored the Scandinavian forests to record natural sounds, including the noise of breaking twigs from fir trees. This approach led to a new turn indicator sound that is slower and more calming, enhancing the driving experience without dictating it. Another area of focus has been the seatbelt reminder sound. Traditionally, this has been a source of irritation for many drivers, often perceived as a harsh beep. Our team aimed to create a reminder that was more of a gentle prompt than a sharp alert. By using natural sounds from acoustic instruments, they developed a more pleasant and less intrusive reminder, aligning with our goal of ensuring both safety and comfort for our drivers. Our objective is to design a sound interface that reflects our Scandinavian heritage. By integrating natural elements into our soundscapes, we aim to bring a sense of calm and connection to nature within our cars. The turn indicator, inspired by the sound of a breaking twig from a Scandinavian fir tree, is a testament to this approach. It is a small detail that underscores our commitment to quality and thoughtful design. Our sound design philosophy at Volvo Cars seeks to balance technological advancement with a touch of nature, enhancing the driving experience while maintaining our commitment to sustainability and environmental harmony. #VolvoCars #SoundDesign #ScandinavianDesign

Our core EBIT margin was a record 8.1 per cent.    “We delivered a strong Q2 performance with record underlying profitability, demonstrating our ability to create value despite a complex geopolitical and economic environment,” says Jim Rowan, our chief executive. “Our core operational momentum remains on a firm footing, thanks to the strength of our balanced strategy, product portfolio and our agility in responding decisively to headwinds.”      “Our brand and values around safety and sustainability, as well as our unique technology approach, continue to resonate strongly with customers,” adds Jim Rowan. “During the year we increased our market share in Europe to the highest level ever and grew our share in the US as well, while managing our market position in China. Bright mornings, vibrant wildflowers, lush greenery, and tranquil lakes reflecting the endless light - welcome to the magic of a Swedish summer!   A few weeks ago, we invited global lifestyle media and content creators to our hometown Gothenburg to fully immerse themselves in a traditional  Swedish midsummer celebration. They experienced firsthand how the Scandinavian lifestyle influences our car designs and learned more about how we work with recycled materials to become a circular business by 2040. They were also among the first to drive our Model Year 2025 electric and plug-in hybrid car lineup in the beautiful Swedish landscapes.   What are your summer plans?

🏳️🌈 Painting the town rainbow for a month of Pride 🏳️🌈 At Volvo Cars, International Pride Month is a time for celebration of diversity and our people. And hey, did we paint the town red! Or to be more accurate, in all colours of the rainbow. In offices and plants around the world, we came together in parades and celebrations, organised global webinars to discuss how to create safe spaces for everyone and shared personal stories on what it’s like to be part of the LGBTQ+ community at Volvo Cars. This year’s celebrations might be coming to an end, but our efforts to create safe spaces for everyone continue. At Volvo Cars, everyone should have the freedom to be. Because we know that feeling safe allows us to think differently and be different. A huge thank you to all our colleagues across the globe for making this year’s Pride our best yet!
