As the days get colder, we’re looking back at our summer temporary floating art installation, Upcycle by Javid Jah. Thank you to all the people involved and their hard work in bringing this engaging work to life. It was a pleasure to see it on the waterfront and explore our relationship to water through art, stories, and community. Our Temporary Public Art Program provides a platform for artists to experiment and push creative boundaries and acts as a catalyst for community dialogue and connection. By addressing timely issues and reflecting local narratives, these projects facilitate conversations among residents, fostering a sense of community ownership and pride in public spaces. Waterfront Toronto is the public advocate and steward of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization.
About us
Waterfront Toronto is the public advocate and steward of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization. We are in the midst of the largest urban redevelopment project in North America, putting people first and reconnecting our city to the water's edge. We are developing mixed-use neighborhoods with high-quality parks and public realm, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the highest standards of environmental sustainability. In 2001, the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto established Waterfront Toronto (then known as the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation) to oversee all aspects of the planning and development of Toronto’s central waterfront. Waterfront Toronto’s vision is to work with community and public and private sector partners to create waterfront parks, public spaces, cultural institutions, and diverse and sustainable commercial and residential communities. By employing global best practices and made-in-Toronto solutions, the city’s new waterfront communities will protect and enhance our natural environment, and will ultimately establish themselves as global models for sustainability. Flashback Friday: This was from August 2022! Friday Photo: One of the interesting things to capture on the Port Lands site is the ever-shifting landscape. Every person or truck who traverses the excavation area creates a slightly different pattern in the soil. See more photos: https://lnkd.in/dNs35Vsi

While we opened parks, like Love Park, that can be enjoyed today, we are also working to create parks that we plan to deliver in the future, like our vision for a destination PlayPark, a larger-than-life playground on ‘Villiers Island’. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3ZXPCyj

Flagship parks are an essential ingredient of great waterfronts. Next year we’ll open Toronto’s largest new park system in a generation with River Park North and South, and the Lassonde Art Trail, creating more waterfront access and attracting more visitors to Toronto's waterfront.
