Advancing understanding. Improving lives.
About us
Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province. Waypoint’s 1,300+ staff improve lives and bring hope to people with mental illness and substance use issues. The care we deliver on site, in the community and through partnerships is informed by our innovative practices and – importantly – patient voices. We are sponsored by the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario. Each patient’s journey is unique, and we support their recovery with compassion, dignity and inclusivity. Waypoint staff are internationally recognized for their leadership and research, which they approach with professionalism and humility. This dedication deepens understanding of mental health and addiction, and helps to build a better future for patients, their families and care partners, staff, the community and the health care system.

Today marks Saint Marguerite d’Youville feast day – a celebration of Canada's first native saint. Celebrated as an example of an unconditionally loving person who helped all in need, her legacy still lives on through the Grey Sisters. The Grey Sisters sponsored the Penetanguishene General Hospital and are one of the founding partners of the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario – who now sponsor Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. We're inspired by St. Marguerite’s example of service to the most vulnerable and recognize her devotion to welcoming those in need.

Meet Neil 👋 Neil is a registered social worker for our Horizon Program for Geriatric Psychiatry. He happily spends his days working with older adults and attributes that to having missed growing up with grandparents. “The word ‘miracle’ isn’t used very often in health care, but we’ve seen patients on Horizon who’ve gone from not being able to speak or care for themselves to being almost the person their family knew prior to their illness,” he said.
