  • This March 24 is the fifth annual Whistleblower Awareness Day, which reminds us of the vital role whistleblowers play in strengthening our public institutions. Reporting workplace wrongdoing brings to light matters that an employee believes may be unlawful, dangerous or harmful to the public interest. To increase the likelihood of disclosures, it’s important that people feel that they can express themselves without fear.    The Public Interest Commissioner recently conducted a survey of public sector employees to measure their awareness and perceptions of public sector whistleblowers’ rights and protections. There are many ways public sector workers can report suspected wrongdoing, but the survey showed that most public sector employees don’t know or are unsure about whistleblower policies or their protections. You can learn more about these rights and protections today at yourvoiceprotected.ca.

  • What’s it like to #WorkAtWCB? Service, care, excellence, trust and fairness. These are our core values. These values are fundamental to who we are, the service we provide to our clients and how we work together. Here's what this means to us every day: Service: We contribute to each other’s well-being and provide the support people need, when they need it. Care: We are eager to help others. Our clients and staff are people with families, hopes, dreams and dignity. We all have unique needs worthy of empathy and understanding. Excellence: We strive to excel in every aspect of our business, but excellence doesn’t mean we’re perfect. We’re constantly learning, growing and improving. Trust: We are consistent, fair and reliable. We deliver on our commitments and own our mistakes so we can build trust in our system – one interaction at a time. We extend trust to our clients and to each other. Fairness: We’re guided by balance and impartiality. We achieve this through open and honest communication, listening to our clients (and each other) and treating each other with dignity and respect. If this sounds like you, you could be a great fit as a member of our team. If we’re a values match, read our open career opportunities and apply online at: www.wcb.ab.ca/careers. #WorkersCompensation #WCBAlberta

  • Meet Daniel, a dedicated police officer with over ten years of service. He was hit by a vehicle during a routine traffic stop, resulting in severe injuries, multiple surgeries and a long hospital stay. Despite suffering a concussion and amnesia, he was eager to fully participate in physical therapy and return-to-work programs to help him get back to work and back to life. With determination and support, Daniel transitioned to a new role as an investigator. Now, he thrives in his new position, enjoys collaborating with his teammates on new projects and is back to camping with his family on weekends. We’re proud of Daniel’s resilience and dedication. It’s #YOUniqueCare.
