This Disability Employment Awareness Month, let's focus on removing barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from fully participating in society. Independence and equal opportunities should be accessible to everyone. Some ways we can ensure we remove barriers and create opportunities: Attitudinal barriers: don't see just the disability - see the person and the talent they bring to the place Environmental barriers: Make spaces more inclusive, from sidewalks to doorways. Institutional barriers: Challenge discriminatory policies and practices while creating more awareness Communication barriers: Ensure information is accessible for all, including captioning and sign language. Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home. As we wear orange, we reflect on the history and legacy of the residential school system and the need for ongoing healing and understanding. In alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, we remain committed to fostering inclusion and creating equitable employment opportunities for Indigenous communities across Canada. We encourage you to learn more about the lived experiences of survivors through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and join us in building a future based on respect and understanding.
