According to a University of Toronto study, 22.9% of Canadians reported living in a food-insecure household in 2023. That is approximately 8.7 million people. Although this is a national issue, there are actions you can take today to help support your local community. This Thanksgiving, here are a few ideas to inspire action and create change in your community.

Teachers touch the lives of students in so many meaningful ways. In honour of #WorldTeachersDay this Saturday, October 3rd, we wanted to share some words of wisdom from Martina Seo, a High School Home Economics teacher from West Vancouver Schools. Inspiring generosity and charitable giving in her students is one way she influences them during their time in her classroom. By sharing stories of her own generosity and the impact it can have on someone's life, she inspires them to pay it forward. Shout out to all the teachers out there who inspire the next generation every day!

October marks #WomensHistoryMonth here in Canada, and we wanted to shine the spotlight on the incredible impact women in philanthropy are making across our country. As women continue to amass wealth at an unprecedented pace, the future of philanthropy is looking mighty female. Today, women are stepping into their roles as changemakers and charitable leaders with vigour, dedicating their time, talents, and resources to causes close to their hearts. In 2023, TD Wealth released a study that looked into the distinct giving behaviours among Canadian female philanthropists. And last March, we highlighted the pivotal role women are playing in shaping Canada’s charitable sector, with donations by women increasing by a whopping 287% Read the full story in our blog: https://bit.ly/3XWsKxW #Philanthropy #FutureIsFemale

We're on a mission to transform how communities, like schools, sports clubs, and workplaces, see and participate in giving. The heart of this mission? To make generosity a regular part of their culture and programming. This isn't about sending charities to them for fundraising. Rather, it's about creating a giving program that contributes to their goals as an organization: youth development and learning, for example. I'm excited about the giving programs Charitable Impact will soon begin rolling out. I'd love for you to dive deeper into this journey with us. Do you play a role in a community that is interested in developing youth citizenship and community engagement? Listen to the Just Word Podcast at https://bit.ly/4gvkIDA. It's a conversation that will give you some sense of what we mean by this and why we think it's important.
