The team is celebrating another project groundbreaking with Gracorp (Graham Group Ltd.) and Graham. Block 22 is a 425 unit purpose-built rental project at the University District near the University of Calgary. Block 22 is the second major residential project in the University District with this same team, Block 15 being the first project. Typically, high-density multi-family residential buildings have a low amount of 3-bedroom suites. The student demographic of the area makes expansive 3-bedroom layouts ideal and in high-demand. The 3-bedroom layouts we’ve developed at Block 22 provide equal-sized rooms and a more affordable option for students to occupy with roommates. Block 15 is on pace to have cladding complete soon. You can see the 385 unit residential project peeking over the buildings in the background. We missed Jean Guy Beliveau, but kyle niznik and Chris Joslin were present to kick off construction. Congratulations to the whole team on reaching this milestone!

1970–1980 was a remarkable decade of innovative, culture-defining projects.   McMaster University Health Sciences Centre was a ground-breaking design with a flexible approach and successful interstitial system that has since been emulated worldwide. This building was the first integrated patient-care, education, and research complex to incorporate interstitial space with an incremental mechanical system. Coined as “obsolescence-proof” by the World Hospital Congress, the design accommodates necessary evolution over time with minimal intervention.   Ontario Place has been and continues to be a cherished landmark for Toronto locals. Designed in 1968, the complex was completed three years later in May 1971. Zeidler took an avant-garde approach to Ontario Place, resulting in a continued appreciation for its architecture.   The Toronto Eaton Centre is a major urban complex and shopping centre development for Toronto. Now owned by Cadillac Fairview, the original Eaton Centre was originally built as a large shopping complex for the Eaton department store chain. Zeidler created numerous iterations of the design, with the most successful being a solution that created a grand urban space inspired by 19th-century European gallerias. Zeidler also emphasized the importance of keeping a shopping street atmosphere within the building. Our team is currently nearing completion of the Galleria revitalization.   Detroit Receiving Hospital applies the principles Zeidler uncovered after completing the McMaster Health Sciences Centre. He noted the ability to consider design as a continuum rather than a linear process as a result of the Detroit Receiving Hospital project. The new hospital completely contrasted the old hospital conditions that had wounded people lined up nightly along the corridors and police with dogs patrolling the hallways. Zeidler’s design is a place of healing and was recognized by the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) with an Honour Award and AIA-Journal headline stating, “A Hospital Achieves Rare Levels of Design and Amenity”.   #wearezeidler #zeidler70 #ontarioplace #torontoeatoncentre #mcmaster #healthcare

The Thunder Bay Correctional Complex is coming along. These pictures don't quite show how massive this building is and how significant this P3 development is. Seeing all the construction progress made over the past two years is exciting. Kudos to the team, EllisDon and DLR Group, for being ahead of schedule.

🏗️Project Milestone: Thunder Bay Correctional Complex Two dynamic years have passed since this project broke ground and we have exciting updates to share! A colossal 360,000 m³ of earth has been moved, reshaping the landscape and laying the groundwork for what's to come. Several kilometres of underground utilities have been meticulously installed, forming the complex's intricate hidden network. A massive 19,000 m³ concrete substructure has been completed, forming a solid base for the complex. And this is skimming the surface. Next up: having the building enclosure substantially complete by the end of 2024. Tasked with an ambitious, multi-year Campus-Wide Classroom Renewal Program, we worked extensively with York University to design learning environments that not only support the dynamic nature of modern education but also sets a new standard for classroom environments. By integrating functionality, accessibility, and sustainability, we designed spaces that not only meet the immediate needs of students and faculty but also inspire creativity and foster a strong sense of community. Our holistic approach supports York University’s long-term vision for higher education by transforming traditional classrooms into dynamic, engaging, and durable spaces that promote collaboration and adaptability for years to come. The Fraser Health Authority Intensive Care Management (ICM), Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT), Rapid Access Addition Clinic (RAAC), and Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) facility is now complete! The Abbotsford space is complete with a range of supportive environments, a sacred room, and an approach to health provision that is low barrier and accessible. TINT'D Film & Graphic Solutions did a great job with graphics and coordinating with CDC Construction Ltd. on the project.

Check out this beautiful installation we recently completed for CDC Construction Ltd. The incorporation of environmental graphics in sacred spaces like this truly enriches the atmosphere, transforming blank walls into inviting canvases. This serene area serves as a sanctuary for reflection, contemplation, prayer, and meditation. With the calming presence of nature and the gentle warmth of wood, it creates an uplifting and inclusive environment, fostering peace and tranquility. #TINTD #environmentalgraphics #wallart #sacredspaces

Meet Lily Lampros, a Proposal Specialist in our Toronto Studio.   Lily's entrance into the AEC industry was inspired by her studies in architectural history and theory. She saw an opportunity to bring this context into the corporate world by creating historically informed marketing materials. Lily appreciates how her role allows her to collaborate with the marketing team and leadership to develop strategies for framing Zeidler's portfolio, aiming to attract business in both new industries and established sectors.   On a typical workday, Lily actively searches for new business opportunities, develops persuasive narratives for pursuits across various sectors, and refines proposal imagery, layout, and typography. Her work with proposal visuals is cohesive with Zeidler's brand, showcasing the firm's experience and developing proposal writing that is accessible to a range of clients.   When she's not in the studio, Lily can be found attending music events around the city, designing content for friends, or decorating her apartment. #wearezeidler #meettheteam #zeidler70

Our interior design team has wrapped up the state-of-the-art BMO Academy in downtown Toronto. The learning centre is an innovative hub equipped with flexible, accessible, and technology-rich environments. The Academy is lofted and naturally lit creating transparency across the space, encouraging diverse modes of thinking and working. It was a fulfilling experience for the team to design a unique facility intended for reinvestment back into the BMO staff toward learning and growth. The Globe and Mail has a great feature on the space you can read here: https://lnkd.in/eKji2EmZ
