About us
CPAWS Wildlands League is a not-for-profit charity that has been working in the public interest to protect public lands and resources in Ontario since 1968, beginning with a campaign to protect Algonquin Park from development. We have extensive knowledge of land use in Ontario and a history of working with governments (provincial, federal, Aboriginal and municipal), communities, scientists, the public and resource industries on progressive conservation initiatives. We have specific experience with impacts of industrial development on boreal forests and wildlife that depend on them, as well as dedicated protected areas establishment and management expertise. Wildlands League is a not-for-profit charity that has been working in the public interest to protect public lands and resources in Ontario since 1968, beginning with a campaign to protect Algonquin Park from development. We give voice to Canada’s nature to make sure at least half of the country is protected forever for all our kids, for climate and for the planet.

Millions of birds in the western hemisphere rely on the rich offshore marine environment of western James Bay and southwestern Hudson Bay coast for breeding, refueling and survival. The Omushkego know this better than anyone. For millennia they have relied on a healthy coast for their culture and health. Tell Premier Doug Ford the time is now. Heed the call of community leaders, land users, conservationists, scientists and thousands of Canadians. Don’t leave these areas open for mining. Lend your voice: https://buff.ly/4dBQkpB

A few weeks ago, we had the thrill of premiering an incredible new short film by the Water Brothers at Tawich in the City! We couldn't wait to share it with everyone because it’s just too good not to! Wildlands League and Mushkegowuk Council were delighted to work with the incredible Water Brothers to showcase Canada’s Great Inland Sea in Weeneebeg (James Bay) and Washaybehoh (Hudson Bay). Dive in and enjoy the beauty of Canada’s Great Inland Sea and hear from the people working to safeguard it: https://buff.ly/4f7LO23 🎥 Filming and editing of this short film by The Water Brothers.

Earlier this year, Parks Canada and Mushkegowuk Council made strides to protect the rich offshore marine environment of western James Bay and southwestern Hudson Bay representing 85% of the incredible marine conservation vision of the Omushkego people. However, federal jurisdiction does not extend to the coast and it would be a huge gap if left unprotected. We need the Ontario government to commit to safeguarding this vital ~1300 km coastline, home to millions of birds and diverse wildlife. ❌ Don’t leave these areas open for mining. Tell Premier Ford to act now: https://buff.ly/4dBQkpB
