Wine Journeys, and Chief Wine Expert Trent Mayers, had a great night at the 2024 Barrie Business Awards last night as we were honoured to win the award for Marketing and Promotion. Congratulations to all the other winners and finalists! And a huge thank you to all the sponsors and Barrie Chamber of Commerce for making this fantastic event possible. Special thanks to my wife, Sue Carr, this would not have been possible without your support! 💕 #business #winelover #smallbusiness #winetime
Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 😍 Wayne Gretzky Chardonnay 2023 ★★★½ (88) We are a little leery of celebrity wines since they can be overhyped, but this Chardonnay delivers. Nicely balanced fruit (lemon, yellow apple, pineapple, mango) supported by cream and a bit of oak spiced vanilla finishing with green apple. It’s medium bodied and would be a nice complement to chicken salad or your Thanksgiving turkey leftovers. Or put away a bottle or two for your Christmas feast. $16.95 (LCBO, The Wine Shop) #winepairing #weekendwine #wineandfood #whitewine
Wine Journeys Thanksgiving Weekend Wine 🍷 Flat Rock Pinot Noir 2021 ★★★★ (90) Pinot Noir is one of Niagara’s strengths and this red won a Silver in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Not too shabby for Flat Rock's excellent entry level Pinot. It highlights the fruit the grape has to offer with just the right amount of spicy oak – raspberry, ripe red cherry, and beetroot with a nice cranberry finish. This wine is one of our personal favs for pairing with Thanksgiving turkey or try it with mushroom risotto. $24.95 (Vintages) #thanksgivingwine #weekendwine #turkey #wine
Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 San Felice Chianti Classico 2021 ★★★★ (90) The best vineyards in Chianti are in the Chianti Classico region and here is a nice take on a Chianti Classico with sour cherry and crushed strawberry combined with rosemary, forest floor, new leather, cedar, and woody vanilla. It’s just over medium bodied, with tannins that are still fairly high, but fine with food. Serve it with your steaks, sausage, and meat lover’s pizza. $20.95 (Vintages) #winepairing #wine #redwine #pizzawine
Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 13th Street Cabernet Merlot 2021 ★★★½ (88) This Bordeaux style Meritage from Niagara is mostly Merlot (48%) blended with Cabernet Franc (32%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Nicely dry, medium bodied, and fruity with black cherry, plum, raspberry, red currant, and a suggestion of cedary, peppery spice. It’s ready to drink now, but would reward with another 2-3 years in the cellar. Marinated and grilled skirt steak would make a very nice pairing with this red. #wine #winepairing #weekendwine $20.25 (Vintages)
Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 😍 Vineland Estates Unoaked Chardonnay 2023 ★★★½+ (89) It’s a dry, fresh, and medium bodied wine imbued with orchard fruits and pleasant lemony finish. Perfect for pairing with your finger foods like brie on crostini or spinach/artichoke dip, but will make pretty much anything you serve more enjoyable, even put away a bottle for your Thanksgiving turkey. And it’s is a nice sipper too. $15.95 (LCBO, Winery) #winetime #winepairing #weekendwine #winelovers
Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍾 Saintly The Good Sparkling Rosé NV ★★★½ (88) This very good Charmat Method sparkler from Ontario’s large Arterra Wines group appears to have been made at Kew Winery, which specializes in sparkling. The grapes used, however, are a closely guarded secret. From tasting, we suspect it’s a blend of Pinot Noir and/or Gamay with Chardonnay and a dollop of Riesling. The flavours are reminiscent of red berry fruits mixed with mandarin orange and grapefruit. Try it with fried foods, apps, and tomato salads. $19.95 (LCBO, Wine Rack) #winepairing #sparklingwine #winelover #weekendwine
