  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 😍 Ormarine Carte Noir Picpoul de Pinet 2023 ★★★★ (90) This wine, from a small appellation bordering the Mediterranean Sea in southern France, is distinguished by the fact it is from the only region in the whole area devoted solely to white wine. The ancient grape, Picpoul, produces a vibrant white with high acidity (hence, the grape’s name translates roughly as “lip stinger”), citrus, minerals, and a bit of salt on the finish. It would be the perfect match for seafood, especially shellfish. $14.95 (Vintages) #wine #winepairing #frenchwine #winetime

  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 Sister’s Run Cow’s Corner Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2022 ★★★★ (91) This full bodied wine from Australia’s storied Barossa Valley mimics the typical blend in French Côtes du Rhône, that is, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre (even though they use the favoured Australian names for 2 of the grapes: Shiraz=Syrah and Mataro=Mourvedre). It’s a little more intense than the French version, but delivers the same fruits: strawberry, black raspberry, and peppery plum backed up with vanilla, forest floor, eucalyptus, and rosemary. Excellent served with braised meats, lamb, and classic French Boeuf en Daube. $18.95 (Vintages) #winepairing #weekendwine #australianwine #redwine

  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 Le Clos Jordanne Jordan Village Pinot Noir 2021 ★★★★ (91) This Niagara Pinot won a Silver Medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards, which is no mean feat. Thomas Bachelder, the winemaker, sources fruit from select parcels in the Le Clos Estate vineyard, the Claystone Estate vineyard (both in the Twenty-Mile Bench sub-appellation), and the Talon Ridge Estate vineyard, situated just above the two other vineyards in the cooler, higher Vinemount Ridge sub-appellation to make this wine. It’s an excellent take on Pinot with plenty of dark cherry, cranberry, earth, forest floor with a little leather and noticeable tannic structure. The flavours linger showing a bit of sour red cherry. This wine would make a splendid addition to your Christmas feast, especially if you like dark turkey and it's the perfect gift for your Pinot lover. If you can't wait to try it with turkey, it would also be marvelous paired with beef tenderloin or oven roasted salmon. $30.00 (Vintages, Winery, Online) #weekendwine #pinotnoir #winepairing #redwine

  • Wine Journeys, and Chief Wine Expert Trent Mayers, had a great night at the 2024 Barrie Business Awards last night as we were honoured to win the award for Marketing and Promotion. Congratulations to all the other winners and finalists! And a huge thank you to all the sponsors and Barrie Chamber of Commerce for making this fantastic event possible. Special thanks to my wife, Sue Carr, this would not have been possible without your support! 💕 #business #winelover #smallbusiness #winetime

  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 😍 Wayne Gretzky Chardonnay 2023 ★★★½ (88) We are a little leery of celebrity wines since they can be overhyped, but this Chardonnay delivers. Nicely balanced fruit (lemon, yellow apple, pineapple, mango) supported by cream and a bit of oak spiced vanilla finishing with green apple. It’s medium bodied and would be a nice complement to chicken salad or your Thanksgiving turkey leftovers. Or put away a bottle or two for your Christmas feast. $16.95 (LCBO, The Wine Shop) #winepairing #weekendwine #wineandfood #whitewine

  • Wine Journeys Thanksgiving Weekend Wine 🍷 Flat Rock Pinot Noir 2021 ★★★★ (90) Pinot Noir is one of Niagara’s strengths and this red won a Silver in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Not too shabby for Flat Rock's excellent entry level Pinot. It highlights the fruit the grape has to offer with just the right amount of spicy oak – raspberry, ripe red cherry, and beetroot with a nice cranberry finish. This wine is one of our personal favs for pairing with Thanksgiving turkey or try it with mushroom risotto. $24.95 (Vintages) #thanksgivingwine #weekendwine #turkey #wine

  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 San Felice Chianti Classico 2021 ★★★★ (90) The best vineyards in Chianti are in the Chianti Classico region and here is a nice take on a Chianti Classico with sour cherry and crushed strawberry combined with rosemary, forest floor, new leather, cedar, and woody vanilla. It’s just over medium bodied, with tannins that are still fairly high, but fine with food. Serve it with your steaks, sausage, and meat lover’s pizza. $20.95 (Vintages) #winepairing #wine #redwine #pizzawine

  • Wine Journeys Weekend Wine 🍷 13th Street Cabernet Merlot 2021 ★★★½ (88) This Bordeaux style Meritage from Niagara is mostly Merlot (48%) blended with Cabernet Franc (32%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Nicely dry, medium bodied, and fruity with black cherry, plum, raspberry, red currant, and a suggestion of cedary, peppery spice. It’s ready to drink now, but would reward with another 2-3 years in the cellar. Marinated and grilled skirt steak would make a very nice pairing with this red. #wine #winepairing #weekendwine $20.25 (Vintages)
