THE greatest risks of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (lung disease) were observed among workers employed in the mining, forestry, and papermaking, and food and beverage sectors.
September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is the most common fibrotic lung disease. It is similar to silicosis and asbestosis and involves scarring of the lungs, resulting in reduced lung capacity. The term idiopathic is used to describe conditions of an unknown cause. While little is known about the occupational risk factors, OCRC has studied occupational groups at higher risk of IPF. View a summary of our key findings: https://lnkd.in/gjTqB_uc.

August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day – a day to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce stigma, and remember those who have been affected by drug-related harms and their loved ones. Canada is facing an ongoing opioid-related public health crisis. With more than 20,000 deaths or hospitalizations due to opioid-related poisonings between January 2016 and June 2021, working-aged adults are most affected. OCRC and Institute for Work & Health have jointly established a surveillance program to examine and monitor opioid-related adverse health events and identify worker groups at higher risk of opioid-related harms using data from OCRC's Occupational Disease Surveillance System (ODSS). This project aims to raise awareness about the risk of opioid-related harms occurring among Ontario workers and expand efforts to prevent and address the opioid crisis. Learn more about the Opioid-Related Harms Among Ontario Workers project at opioidsandwork.ca and explore the Opioids and Work Data Tool to visualize patterns of opioid-related harms among Ontario Workers at https://lnkd.in/gr462hZx.
