🎉 Happy #NationalIndustrialDesignDay! ❤️Are you an industrial designer? Share your story today by using #NationalIndustrialDesignDay! Celebrated annually on March 5 and officially recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record in 2015 by U.S. Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, this year marks 10 years of National Industrial Design Day honoring the designers who shape the world around us. It declares that industrial designers “improve our lives in every way and are worthy of our recognition.” This year is especially meaningful as we also celebrate 60 years since the founding of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) on March 5, 1965! 🔴 Curious about #industrialdesign? Industrial designers develop products, devices, objects, and services used by millions of people every day. Everything from the tools in your kitchen to the chair you sit in has been thoughtfully designed to improve function, usability, and aesthetics. Learn more about the profession and its significance at https://lnkd.in/eTWQCJaR. 📸 Pictured here: the Polaroid SX-70 camera, KitchenAid stand mixer, Nike Air Jordan, Swiss Army knife, and the Dixie cup—iconic examples of industrial design in action.

"Culture is multiple, diverse, complex and nuanced, and our work as researchers is to shed light on those aspects of design cultures that often go unnoticed." Alongside a team of researchers whose expertise includes gender studies, anthropology, environmental politics, sociology and business, Guy Julier and Annamari Vänskä co-lead the Design Culture Research Group at #WDOMember Aalto University. Their work exists at the intersection of design, cultural expression and contemporary society, with the goal of not only expanding the study of design culture but also finding more meaningful ways of mediating, perceiving and interacting with the world around us. Featured in our latest 'designing pop culture' newsletter, you can read our full conversation with Guy and Annamari at wdo.org/hottopics #designculture #designculturestudies #designresearch
