Thank You, Wounds Canada, for putting on another great national conference! It’s always a great opportunity to learn, network, and get inspired to do better at preventing and treating chronic wounds. The estimated cost of wounds in Canada in 2023 was $12B (factoring direct and indirect costs including loss of income, disability support and out of pocket expenses for patients), yet the vast majority of wounds are preventable! There has never been a more pressing need to free up human and financial resources consumed by preventable conditions, but it’s patients who will benefit from our collective efforts the most. At this year’s conference, I was so moved by Ide Costa’s amazing work on representing the impact of chronic wounds on patients, one of whom, Matt Anderson, I knew personally. Matt and others share the human side of the story, about how living with wounds affects their daily lives and the lives of their caregivers. These are powerful and impactful stories that will hopefully influence change. It’s time. Idevania Costa (RN, NSWOC, PhD) #WoundsCanada2024 #ItsTime #ProtectSkin #EndWounds
