Indigenous peoples have a rich and diverse cultural heritage that spans thousands of years. Their traditions, languages, and ways of life are deeply connected to the land and natural environment. Despite facing numerous challenges and injustices throughout history, Indigenous communities have shown remarkable resilience and continue to fight for their rights, sovereignty, and cultural preservation.  Let's join together this June, to uplift and support our Indigenous communities, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. Welcome to our new series! “Simply Explained” aims to answer any questions you might have about the Lab as simply as possible. In our first edition, we will be providing more insight regarding how the Lab functions within the WSIB. As an hub of the WSIB, the Innovation Lab is dedicated to fostering experimentation, creativity, and collaboration. When the WSIB identifies a challenge that requires a creative approach, the Lab assists with the discovery and development process. Through conversations with the WSIB staff, the Lab aids in exploring and sharing possible solutions. The Designers, Developers, and Communication Specialists work together to ensure that all parts of the process are detailed and user-friendly. The WSIB Innovation Lab is hiring a new Innovation Solutions Lead! If you are passionate about mentoring multidisciplinary teams and the deployment of innovative ideas, new technologies and advanced solutions, come join us at the Lab. Using your applicable skills, you can either act as a Development or a Design Lead for the Lab. This 9-month contract role is the perfect hands-on opportunity for you to develop your skills brainstorming, researching, designing, architecting and developing prototypes and assisting in the creation of innovative solutions. With the commencement of Cohort 21, WSIB’s Innovation Lab welcomes both returning and new faces. With two weeks already underway, the Lab is buzzing with excitement and ambition. We're thrilled to have 32 students from diverse backgrounds and expertise joining us, including students from the Ukrainian Summer program. The students span the Development, Design, and Communications & Engagement teams. We eagerly anticipate the creativity and progress they'll bring to the table over the next few months. Last month, the WSIB Innovation Lab had the incredible opportunity to participate in Microsoft's OpenAI Hackathon, a dynamic event that brought together innovators from various sectors. Our team explored several problem spaces, leveraging the cutting-edge capabilities of Microsoft Azure AI software to craft inventive solutions. Our team gathered for a special Team Day at our Toronto office last week! Our morning was filled with productive working sessions and team collaboration across #Comms, #Dev, and #Design. It’s hard to believe this team will be wrapping up our projects over the next week - time flies! At lunch, we enjoyed a delicious Thai meal and even better company. Post-lunch, some of us ventured to Nathan Phillips Square for a bit of ice skating, embracing the winter vibes in the downtown core. Beyond the projects we work on, days like these are a chance for us to connect with fellow students and build lasting connections that extend beyond the office.
