Although Keegan has since aged out of the program he hasn’t exactly moved on from Beyond the Bell. While studying social service at Six Nations Polytechnic through a partnership with Mohawk College, he had to do a placement, and that brought him back to Beyond the Bell™. Today, we shine a light on mental health – a vital part of overall well-being. At the Y, we believe everyone has the potential to thrive, and that includes having access to quality mental health support both in life and in the workplace. Creating a healthy work environment is essential for the overall well-being of our staff and volunteers. By fostering a space where mental health is prioritized, we help each other overcome obstacles, reduce stress, and stay empowered in our roles. Let’s continue to support each other on this journey. #MentalHealthAtWork

The Y behind the Walk... Live now on our YouTube channel. With so many social and economic barriers holding people back, Kelly Frapporti-Tobin CFE, CPIO-SI wants to shine more light on a lost and overlooked demographic being hit the hardest. In 2023 alone, the YMCA provided 226 men clean, safe and affordable transitional housing in the Hamilton Downtown Family YMCA Residence. Kelly wanted to do something big to help raise urgently needed funds and awareness. Kelly Frapporti-Tobin, nine community members, and YMCA staff, including Robin Abbott, Manny (Manuel) Figueiredo, Paul Haddad, and Genevieve Hladysh (Edgcumbe), walked 72km in two days, touching YMCA Centres in Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford to raise money for the Men's Residence. Amino is a newcomer youth and for the past four years, she’s been coming to the YMCA Newcomer Youth Centre (NYC) daily. “The Newcomer Youth Centre really helped me when I was in Grade 9. I needed a job, and I asked my ESL teacher for help. She connected me with a staff member at the YMCA who helped me create my first resume,” says Amino.
