This week, our Economic Development team proudly showcased Vaughan’s dynamic opportunities at the 2024 HardTech Summit! Vaughan is a thriving hub for hardtech innovation, boasting key sectors from health tech, medtech and life sciences to automotive and smart mobility. Startups got a firsthand look at our robust ecosystem and their chance to connect with globally recognized leaders and resources, including: ✅ Mackenzie Health’s Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – Canada’s first smart hospital ✅ York University research, education, and innovation facility with the York University School of Medicine opening in 2028 ✅ ventureLAB Hardware Catalyst Initiative MedTech Lab – Canada’s only lab and incubator for hardware and semiconductor-focused products ✅ Recent investments for new facilities in Vaughan from industry giants like LGC Cardinal Health and Sterling Industries ✅ A network of globally recognized Tier-One suppliers such as Magna International, Martinrea International, Multimatic, Litens Automotive Group, IAC Group, and more ✅ Hanon Systems’ first elective vehicle (#EV) parts facility to be opened in Vaughan – delivering EV components to growing Canada and US markets Excitingly, the team also highlighted the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Demonstration Zone, a unique opportunity for startups to access City infrastructure and test cutting-edge multi-modal mobility innovations in a technology testing program. Co-led by Vaughan’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Planning departments, and in partnership with the City of Markham, innovators can collaborate with city stakeholders to tackle pressing mobility challenges. This fall, Vaughan welcomed seven innovators into the OVIN Demonstration Zone to test their innovations. York Region's 300+ life sciences companies are a draw for top life sciences talent, and the experiential biotechnology programs offered at the York University Markham Campus will continue to feed that talent pipeline.
