Yesterday, our colleagues Alexandra Howard and Nabil Tadros were part of two panel discussions on the Rare Disease Drug Strategy and Real World Evidence, respectively. Both panels highlighted the importance of early planning, collaboration, and system readiness- all in the name of optimizing patient access. I’m excited to share my experience at the annual Market Access Canada Summit in Toronto, where I had the privilege of presenting our work with the Drug Shortages Initiative. Joining a panel of esteemed experts, we explored the challenges and solutions necessary to enhance the resilience of Canada’s drug supply chain and effectively prevent and mitigate shortages. Our discussions underscored the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders in the supply chain. It was an honor to share the stage with Kristin Willemsen, Christine Donaldson, Alexandra Wright, Ph.D., and Paul Grootendorst as we tackled these critical issues. Our CEO, Sandra Hanna RPh, LLM, ICD.D, shared insights on two essential topics: Preferred Provider Networks (PPNs) and Patient Support Programs (PSPs). During the PPN panel, Sandra broke down the intricacies of pharmacy service reimbursement and the many interdependencies impacting sustainable delivery of care through pharmacies, calling on all stakeholders involved in the delivery of care to work together with aligned goals centred on patient care and choice.
