The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration and researchers from the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics are making strides toward revealing a clearer view of black holes! University of Waterloo
Scientists make highest-resolution observations yet from the surface of Earth. The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration has conducted test observations, using ALMA Observatory & other facilities, that could double the level of details of black hole images in the future. Congratulations to Everett!
We're thrilled to celebrate Everett Patterson, a PhD student at the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo for being awarded the 2024 Boris P. Stoicheff Memorial Graduate Scholarship by the Canadian Association of Physicists CAP / ACP. Everett's work applies #quantum information principles to unearth new ideas at the intersection of quantum theory and relativity. Learn more about his research: https://lnkd.in/ditJAs27 His dedication to inclusivity in academia makes this recognition even more meaningful. Outside his research, Everett actively engages in academic governance, aiming to make academia more accessible. He has served on departmental and university-wide student groups, university governance, CAP's Student Advisory Council, and the Division for Theoretical Physics' executive committee. We're proud to have Everett as part of #IQC! #QuantumComputing #Physics

An exciting opportunity for anybody to take part in science with Euclid!
In its mission to map out the Universe, the Euclid space telescope will image hundreds of thousands of distant galaxies. In November 2023 and May 2024, the world got its first glimpse at the quality of Euclid’s images, which included a variety of sources, from nearby nebulas to distant clusters of galaxies. Now, the European Space Agency - ESA and Euclid consortium scientists which includes researchers from the University of Waterloo, have partnered with Galaxy Zoo, a citizen project launched today and you can help identify the shapes of thousands of galaxies in images taken by the Euclid space telescope. These classifications will help scientists answer questions about how the shapes of galaxies have changed over time, and what caused these changes and why.
