I always wanted to be a mom. I had eight babies in twelve years. I also always wanted to be an entrepreneur, starting my first summer camp at 16, which I grew to a number of locations while having my children. When my youngest was four, I dove into what would become my other great passion in life: I launched Kids & Company, a bold, ambitious entrepreneurial venture that would transform the childcare industry and ultimately grow into a global business with over 170 locations. What would inspire a working-mother of eight school-aged children to start any new business, let alone one with an audacious vision for growth like I had? My business and parenting approaches are so similar that they feel like natural extensions of one another. That’s why building a global business while raising eight children never seemed incongruous to me. Here’s how I did it.

Welcome to our new Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation board member, Dhruv Gupta! Dhruv is the president of Akash Group of Companies, responsible for legal, business and strategic partnerships for all business units throughout Western Canada. Under Dhruv’s leadership, the company has grown over the last decade into one of the largest homebuilders in the Edmonton region, and, in 2020, he led their expansion into the Calgary region. The company has recently entered the Winnipeg market and has also expanded into a group of land development and commercial real estate assets throughout Western Canada. Dhruv holds a bachelor of arts with distinction and a juris doctor from the University of Alberta. Prior to joining Akash, he practiced commercial real estate and finance law. Born and raised in Edmonton, Dhruv is a long-time supporter of the Edmonton community, including the Stollery Children’s Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoys supporting the Edmonton Oilers and spending time with his family. We’re looking forward to Dhruv's leadership and new ideas!
