To empower women entrepreneurs by providing them the knowledge, networks, and access they need to scale their businesses

About us

AWE is the State Department's flagship program supporting the Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (W-GDP). AWE operates in more than 100 countries and has been rolled out in DR Congo in 2023. AWE DRC will help women entrepreneurs by providing them the knowledge, networks, and access they need to scale their businesses. It focuses on established enterprising women entrepreneurs evolving in 5 targeted cities which have been used as a launching pad: Goma, Bukavu, Lubumbashi, Kisangani, and Kinshasa. The AWE curriculum is based on DreamBuilder, an online platform developed through a partnership between Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management and global copper mining company Freeport-McMoRan. The AWE program in DR Congo will include additional engagements that enhance and contextualize learning to the local environment. For example, since DreamBuilder does not include country-specific topics, AWE DRC facilitators will be able to address specific local challenges, such as registering a business with local authorities, applying for health and sanitation licensing, and paying taxes. In addition, AWE – DRC will deliver other professional “soft” skills like public speaking through pitch competitions, or strategic planning and time management. Our most promising female entrepreneurs participating to the academy will travel to the US to meet investors, raise funding and be exposed to business leaders from the US.
