In this week's 🎓 #MentorshipMonday 🎓 spotlight, we explore the key components of effective mentorship with the insights of Sue Deakin, a member of AO Trauma, AO UK and AO Ireland president, ESA. 💡 By reflecting on their younger selves, mentors are more likely to understand the challenges their mentees are facing and offer advice tailored to similar struggles. ✨ Reflecting on the lessons they’ve learned over the years helps mentors share their own experiences, mistakes, and successes, which can make their guidance more relatable. The AO (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen) was founded in 1958 by a group of four Swiss surgeons: Maurice E. Müller, Robert Schneider, Hans Willenegger, and Martin Allgöwer. In 2008, the Board of Directors of the AO Foundation created AOTrauma. They recognized the need for the clinical divisions to have their own identity, and the unique market dynamics of trauma. In many ways AOTrauma has always been the main pillar of the AO Foundation and vice versa. It is difficult to separate one from the other. AOTrauma has grown into a global community of best-in-class trauma and orthopedic surgeons, researchers and operating room personnel since its creation as its own clinical division. It continues to focus on its strengths: education, research and community building. AOTrauma has kept the heritage and the history and gone on to establish its own identity within the AO Foundation. The organization has matured through structural changes to better meet emerging challenges of trauma and orthopedic surgeons around the globe. The AOTrauma International Board provides strategic planning and support to the affiliated AOTrauma regions. Each AOTrauma region has its own budget, authority, and the responsibility to drive local activities within the AOTrauma International framework.

✨ Highlights from another successful DKOU! 🎉 The AO hosted numerous engaging symposia at the event, and the AO booth at DKOU was alive with excitement⚡with a visit and hands-on activities for AO students from AO Trauma Deutschland. Trainee surgeons had the chance to delve into innovative learning opportunities and professional growth. 🎯 Award ceremonies play a crucial role in the DKOU, and one of the most prestigious is the Tscherne Award, presented in honor of Prof Dr Harald Tscherne during the Harald Tscherne Honorary Lecture. This year, we were honored to have AO President Tim Pohlemann deliver the lecture titled “Nationwide Trauma Care: Self-evident or Precious Privilege?” 🎓 Congratulations on this esteemed recognition! 🙌 Learn more about our activities ▶️ https://brnw.ch/21wO6jV
