Last week, we were honored to support the Swiss Embassy in Paris in organizing a roundtable about innovation for net zero.   It was a perfect opportunity to connect with leading voices from science, government, and industry to raise awareness of carbon removal's role in reaching our global climate goals.   Hussein Dhanani brought Climeworks' expertise to the discussion, highlighting how long-term offtake agreements, investments, and climate policies can accelerate our scale-up path.   Merci Ambassade de Suisse en France and Swiss Business Hub France!

We're gearing up for another winter season in Hellisheiði, supported by our new mascot: Hildur. Hildur, wearing her own tailor-made, upcycled jacket, was a gift from our partner Mammut Sports Group AG to celebrate the launch of Mammoth, the world's largest Direct Air Capture plant in operation. Derived from Old Norse, the name Hildur alludes to strength and determination, which our team on the ground has proven over the last years while battling wind, rain, snow, and ice to solve one of the toughest challenges of our time. After traveling to Iceland with our engineers, Hildur inspected the plant and the visitor center, where she now stands guard as the engineering work continues. Innovation at the nexus of climate and health. This was the topic of one of the roundtables with which we kicked off our inaugural Climeworks Carbon Removal Summit U.S. last week. We were thrilled to welcome sustainability executives from leading healthcare companies, NGOs, and government to talk about the intersection of climate change and health, moderated by Fiona Adshead The healthcare industry contributes roughly 5% to global annual emissions but is in a unique position to drive climate action forward, mirroring its role of innovating today to improve people's lives tomorrow. A main learning from our roundtable discussion was that these efforts should be directly integrated into business strategies with a long-term horizon while fostering cross-sector collaboration and education. And carbon removal needs to be taken into account too, given that CO₂ emissions from material use, heat requirements, and transportation will be hard to abate in this sector, even with the most ambitious decarbonization measures in place. 53 companies unite for a sustainable future in carbon removal!   We are excited to announce that Climeworks has joined forces with 52 leading organizations to endorse the Carbon Dioxide Removal Industry Commitments.   This initiative sets a new standard for the carbon removal sector, reinforcing our collective dedication to help combat climate change and meet the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement. To achieve net zero, we need to actively remove 5-10 gigatons of CO₂ annually by 2050, on top of drastic emissions reductions.    While our industry is already growing rapidly to inch closer to this target, it needs to scale up even faster in the coming years. And we believe that clear definitions, a commitment to science, transparency, and public engagement are central to the journey.   We invite all players in the carbon removal sector to join us in building a future where carbon removals are done the right way, with accountability at its core. As part of Climate Week NYC, we hosted an intimate breakfast event, bringing together 16 women leaders in sustainable finance, hosted by Franziska Tück and Barbara Truyers from Climeworks The discussions on the table were utterly honest, powerful, and yet inspired hope that: - ROI of climate investments is found in the mid-term - The soaring energy demand from AI and data centers affects net zero targets - The importance of collaboration and creative solutions is the way forward in tackling climate challenges. A few key messages emerged from our discussions: - There’s no competition for the climate, only collaboration. - The time is now—creative solutions and joint efforts are crucial for driving meaningful, transformative progress. - We must stay curious and open to foster more productive partnerships and innovations in sustainability. The breakfast also highlighted the value of small, focused groups of women leaders sharing best practices and supporting one another in driving change.
