A turning point for carbon removal The Science Based Targets initiative, the world's leading body for climate target setting, published the draft guidance of its revised Corporate Net Zero Standard yesterday, with major implications for companies. For the first time, SBTi is establishing guidelines on how companies can begin removing CO₂ in the near term. What do companies need to know about this update? ☑️ Timing: Under the proposed interim removal targets, the first milestone is 2030 ☑️ Durability: SBTi classified removals with 1000+ years of storage as permanent removals ☑️ Costs: A gradual ramp-up of carbon removal makes sense for buyers ☑️ Science: The revision of the Corporate Net Zero Standard reflects latest climate science ☑️ Taking action: You can start building an SBTi-aligned carbon removal portfolio with Climeworks right away Learn more about the SBTi's new carbon removal guidelines in our blog: https://lnkd.in/esrsSxN4 #CarbonRemoval #SBTi #Climeworks

Ahead of Earth Day, become more CO₂ savvy with Climeworks #Pioneers and clever carbon! How much do you really know about carbon? Take the #EarthDay Challenge with your team and find out! We've partnered with Clever Carbon to create a challenge that helps everyone understand their impact and take meaningful action. The challenge is simple: - Learn what the CO₂ concentration was when your company was founded and check-in on your personal footprint - Explore new terms in an easy and engaging way - Consider displaying the carbon coffee menu in your office kitchen Companies that complete the challenge by May 15th will receive a custom badge to showcase their participation. Awareness is the first step to action. Once you're in the know, you can start making changes — including removing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere through our Climeworks Pioneers program. We recently shared that our Mammoth model, designed by the Icelandic agency Gagarín, was nominated for an award. We're excited to let you know that it successfully earned a Gold Award at the Association of Icelandic Graphic Designers Awards 2024 (FÍT Awards) in the "Interactive & Information Design" category! The FÍT jury praised the project for its "engaging and effective communication, professional typography, and beautiful presentation." In case you missed it before, check out more impressions of the Mammoth model here: https://lnkd.in/gfJNj_wv #Innovation #Technology #CarbonRemoval #DesignExcellence
We are happy to share that last week, we earned a gold award at The Association of Icelandic Graphic Designers Awards 2024 (FÍT Awards) in the "Interactive & Information Design" category for the Mammoth Model at the Climeworks Visitor Centre. This prestigious annual event celebrates the best in Icelandic graphic design. "Engaging solution that effectively communicates specific information. Resonates well with the target audience—brilliant digital adaptation. The typography is neat and professional. Beautiful presentation" - FÍT Jury In the spring of 2024, Climeworks launched its second commercial DAC+S plant, Mammoth. Alongside the plant installation, a new Visitor Centre was opened at the Mammoth facility to educate visitors on the carbon capture process. At the Visitor Centre, an engaging model of Mammoth was installed. Through tangible knobs, visitors can access in-depth information about the different modules within the plant and their roles in the carbon capture process. The table was designed using birch and concrete-like materials to complement the architecture of the Visitor Centre. Its minimalistic and contemporary design fits seamlessly into the space's overall aesthetic.

Why are carbon markets key to climate action? Carbon markets are a game-changer for funding global emissions reductions and removals. They allow businesses to focus on emissions they can control, while companies such as Climeworks step in to remove what they can’t. Climeworks is at the forefront of this movement, offering businesses a way to contribute to meaningful, permanent #CarbonRemoval. It’s not just about reducing emissions—it’s about removing what’s already there. Ready to lead the way in climate action? Decarbonization isn’t a cost—it’s an investment with returns. The report “The Cost of Inaction” from World Economic Forum and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) makes it clear: Companies that act now gain a competitive advantage, resilience, and financial benefits. Those that delay decarbonization face higher costs, stranded assets, and lost market share. Think of it like the internet revolution—businesses that embraced digital transformation early thrived, while others fell behind. Decarbonization is the next big economic shift. The cost of inaction is massive: ➡️ Climate risks could put 5-15% of 2050 EBITDA at risk for unprepared companies ➡️ Carbon pricing could add 30-50% annual EBITDA costs in high-emission industries ➡️ Extreme weather is already driving $100B+ in damages annually The opportunities are bigger: ➡️ $1 invested in resilience = $2 to $19 in returns for companies ➡️ Sustainable products grow at 10%+ CAGR, with price premiums up to 36% ➡️ Energy efficiency & resource optimization cut operating costs significantly Have a look at the report: https://lnkd.in/eTSWixbj At Climeworks, we help businesses turn decarbonization into a strategic asset. #Climeworks #Decarbonization #SustainableGrowth #BusinessStrategy Visual from "The Cost of Inaction: A CEO Guide to Navigating Climate Risk"

"The proof is in the pudding" Does this British proverb summarize the state of the carbon removal industry? We believe so. In the latest podcast episode of "What if it works?" by the MIT Energy Initiative, Howard Herzog, Kara Miller, and Robert Stoner discuss important challenges for carbon removal solutions that the industry needs to tackle. The bottom line remains: To mitigate the worst impacts of climate change on communities, ecosystems, and industries, carbon removal solutions must be scaled up drastically next to deep emission reductions. And we're talking about the entire portfolio of carbon removal solutions, from Reforestation to Enhanced Rock Weathering to Direct Air Capture. Especially when it comes to engineered solutions like Direct Air Capture, things always look good on paper, but you only know for sure when you put it to the test in real life. The proof is in the pudding: Until today, Climeworks remains the only company that operates two large-scale Direct Air Capture and Storage facilities, actively removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. Climeworks has been conducting R&D on Direct Air Capture for 15 years. We're rigorously testing our technology—the third Generation already—in our small-, mid-, and large-scale testing facilities, on top of our two operating plants. 200 million data points are collected every day to improve its performance and enhance our field operations. Real impact comes from action, not just ambition. https://lnkd.in/ekJqg4Vu #Technology #CarbonRemoval #Innovation
