Energy companies have a critical role to play in the transformation of the global energy system. They will continue to provide #fossilfuels that enable #energytransformation, through 2050 and beyond. Improving current assets' reliability and cost performance is critical to protect margins that will allow re-investment into decarbonisation, #renewables and cleaner energy. Concurrently #oilandgas companies are transforming into diversified, lower-carbon, energy companies. This will require reducing total industry emissions by 3.4 giga tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and playing a critical role in transitioning fossil fuels from almost four-fifths of the total energy supply today to slightly over one-fifth by 2050, through the addition of wind, solar, biomass, hydrogen, ammonia, carbon capture utilization and storage assets. The #chemicals industry is mature with decades of experience and is a key contributor to the global economy. However, according to ILO, more than 1 billion workers are exposed to hazardous substances. An estimated 1 million of these workers lose their lives each year due to exposure to hazardous chemicals. For those who do not lose their lives, they may face non-fatal injuries and diseases. 📊 From 2015 to 2022, dss⁺ has conducted over 450 consulting engagements in the chemicals industry, and during this time, we have identified several common factors. These engagements involved assessing the relative cultural strength (RCS) using the dss⁺ #BradleyCurve™. One noteworthy observation we made is the prevalence of a relatively complacent #safetyculture in the chemicals industry in Europe.
