IP Protection in simple words. Intellectual Property (IP) protection tends to be understood as a combination of (a) Patents and (b) Trademarks. Both registered rights provide a relatively high level of protection against a significant complexity, administrative burden…and cost. However, if I don’t mean to diminish the usefulness and efficacy of those rights to protect a business, and even more to protect innovation…. they are not alone. The IP flowers reflects the diversity of the IP vehicles providing protection to your innovation and business. If the stem of the flower can be seen as the «Secrecy» (tradesecret) around your business, each petal provides one additional layer of protection; - Design rights (visual aspects) - Contractual exclusivity - Patents - Trademarks My message: Have an holistic view on your Intellectual Property (IP); Use a combination of all appropriate IP vehicles to protect your business. ….and a final advise: Get the help of a professional IP expert.
