Running a hybrid #workshop is not an easy thing. Especially if the pressure to produce outcomes is high. ⚡️⚡️ We still believe, that making things #fun helps driving better results, even in complex topics like the one we were driving last Monday with this "Legends of Zelda"-based Miro sprint-workshop. 👾👾 How do you like it?

🚀 "𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠." - 𝐑𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐱 𝐂𝐄𝐎 It’s a bold statement, and it reflects a reality we’re all too familiar with: many successful products and services are grabbing our attention and reshaping our lives. But as we marvel at these achievements, it’s crucial to ask ourselves: Are we using our innovative power to uplift humanity or inadvertently diminish it? Take AI, for instance. When wielded responsibly, it’s a powerful tool—much like a calculator—helping us solve complex problems and advance our understanding. But when misused, AI can mirror the pitfalls of social media, contributing to reduced attention spans and rising levels of depression. In fact, studies show that heavy social media use is linked to a 13% increase in feelings of loneliness and depression (Source: American Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2020). 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬; 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲.  We have the opportunity—no, the responsibility—to design with integrity, ensuring our innovations serve to enhance human potential rather than undermine it. 🌍 To all decision-makers and innovators: As you chart your course, pause and reflect. Is your strategy, product or service aligned with the values that make the world a better place? Are you considering the long-term impact on well-being and society? 💭 “𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔.” – 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒍 𝑲𝒂𝒉𝒏𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏 We all believe we’re making rational choices, but in reality, our brains are wired to take mental shortcuts that can lead us astray. 🚶♂️💭 Let’s see this in action: 𝑰𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 23 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒅𝒂𝒚? Most people assume the odds are very low. After all, there are 365 days in a year, so how likely could it be? But the truth might surprise you. 🤔 The actual probability is around 50%! This is known as the Birthday Paradox, and it shows how our intuition (System 1 thinking) often fails in understanding probabilities and randomness. Our brains tend to think linearly, assuming that 23 people would mean a 23/365 chance. But the reality is that every new person added to the room creates multiple new potential pairings, exponentially increasing the odds. So, why does this matter for decision-making in business and life? It matters because the same biases that mislead us in simple probability also affect how we make crucial decisions—such as underestimating risks, overestimating our knowledge, or failing to recognize patterns that don’t fit our assumptions. 🧠 At DAY8.io, we understand that our brains are wired for shortcuts and that true innovation and effective decision-making require us to challenge these automatic assumptions. We foster a culture of questioning and reflection to help ensure we’re not just going with our gut, but also engaging our analytical thinking. How often do you challenge your initial assumptions? What decisions could benefit from a deeper look today? #DecisionMaking #CognitiveBias #Leadership #CriticalThinking #DAY8 #ContinuousImprovement #MindfulLeadership

🚨 “Men lowered their scores to the average range of an 8-year-old child.” – University of London Study on Multitasking Multitasking: It’s the productivity killer we often ignore. 🙈 Yet, research keeps reminding us just how damaging it can be. A study found that heavy multitasking can lower your IQ by up to 15 points— equivalent to losing a night's sleep or being intoxicated! 💤🍷 And here’s the kicker: over time, this decrease isn’t just temporary—it may become permanent. 😲 Brain scans have even shown physical changes in people who multitask frequently, reflecting diminished cognitive control and focus. We all know the scenario: meetings piled on top of meetings, emails flying in, and tasks demanding our attention from all directions. This chaotic environment doesn’t foster productivity; it drains it. If we truly want to build high-performing organizations, we need to rethink how we work. ⏳ It’s time to stop treating our people like machines and start treating them like humans. At DAY8.io, we advocate for a work culture that respects our biological limits, fosters focus, and designs workflows that empower—not overwhelm. It’s not just about boosting productivity for the organization; it’s about ethically caring for the well-being of our people. Let’s ditch the myth of multitasking and embrace mindful work practices that allow everyone to perform at their best. 🌟 What steps are you taking to create a healthier work environment? #Productivity #Focus #EthicalWork #HumanCenteredDesign #HighPerformance #WorkCulture #DAY8 #Leadership

"Why do we treat adults like teenagers the moment they enter the workplace?" - Ricardo Semler 🤔💼 Consider this: Why do we assume that adults, capable of making complex decisions in their personal lives, suddenly lose that ability when they step into the workplace? 🚀 What if we flipped the script? Imagine a workplace where self-organization reigns supreme—a culture that empowers employees to make meaningful decisions, take ownership of their work, and contribute to the organization's success in a truly collaborative manner. Imagine how much more thinking power we could generate out of thousands brains compared to a few?🌟 Here are some questions to ponder: - Why Do We Underestimate Adult Capabilities? What assumptions are driving our belief that employees need to be micromanaged? - Are We Providing Enough Context? Could it be that employees lack the necessary information and context to make informed decisions, perpetuating the power imbalance? - What Would Happen If We Trusted More? How might the dynamic shift if we trusted employees to self-organize and make decisions aligned with the organization's goals? By fostering a culture of self-organization and trust, organizations can unlock the full potential of their workforce, driving innovation, engagement, and ultimately, success. 🌱🚀 How do you empower self-organization in your workplace? In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, understanding the difference between complexity and complication is essential for effective leadership and decision-making. 📊🚀 In complicated environments, success often hinges on following established processes and achieving predefined outcomes. It's like navigating a well-charted course, where the path to success is clear, albeit challenging. 🗺️💼 However, in the realm of complexity, the rules of the game change. Here, the relationship between cause and effect is no longer linear, and outcomes are often unpredictable. It's akin to exploring uncharted territory, where the landscape is ever-changing and dynamic. 🌍🔍 Leaders navigating complexity must shift their focus from merely evaluating outcomes to understanding and assessing decision-making processes. Transparency becomes paramount—clearly articulating expectations and delineating between the complicated and complex aspects of a task helps prevent confusion and demotivation among team members. 🤝💡 By embracing transparency and providing clarity, leaders empower their teams to navigate the complexities of the modern business world with confidence and agility. 🌟 How do you evaluate success in your organization's complex environments? 🔍 "Some failures are genuinely good news; some are not, but no matter what type they are, our primary goal is to learn from them." - Amy Edmondson In today’s complex world, trust is the new currency that drives growth and innovation. 🏗️ Without it, even the most ambitious systems and organizations will eventually crack under the pressure of constant change. Amy Edmondson’s insights on the value of learning from failure speak volumes about the need for psychological safety. After all, if teams don’t feel safe to speak up, share ideas, or admit mistakes, how can they ever grow? 🌱 Think of it like this: The old “know-it-all” management style is quickly becoming obsolete. In a world filled with uncertainty and rapid change, the chances that any single person—no matter how experienced—has all the answers are close to zero. This is where the "Iceberg of Ignorance" comes into play. A study showed that frontline workers are aware of 100% of the problems facing an organization, but only 4% of those issues ever make it up to senior management. A huge disconnect! This gap can only be bridged through trust and openness. As Simon Sinek often says, “Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.” In the end, it comes down to this: "Hierarchy, or more specifically, the fear it creates when not handled well, reduces psychological safety." (Amy Edmondson). This does not mean we are against hierarchy. We only believe, be it formal or informal hierarchy: it needs to be handled very sensitively. We believe that fostering a culture of safety, learning, and trust is the only way forward. Because without trust, innovation falters. Without learning, progress stalls. At DAY8.io, we’re committed to building environments where every voice is heard, and every mistake is a stepping stone toward something better. 💪 What’s one failure that taught you a great lesson recently? #PsychologicalSafety #Leadership #ContinuousLearning #TrustMatters #Innovation #DAY8 #GrowthMindset

💡 "Customers don't buy products. They hire a solution to get a job done." - Clayton Christensen At DAY8.io, we believe this idea cuts to the heart of what innovation is all about. It's not about creating another product, but about understanding the real job our customers need to get done. Take the example of a drill. No one goes to a DIY store because they want a drill—they go because they need a hole in the wall. And maybe, just maybe, a better solution than a drill already exists! (Hello, adhesive hooks from 3M!) 🔍 In Design Thinking, we're taught to empathize with the user. But users are diverse—different backgrounds, experiences, and values. Yet, when they need to hang a picture, all of that fades away. Their goal is singular: to get the job done. Consider this: when we call a plumber, we're not excited about the visit itself. We just want the drain unclogged as quickly and painlessly as possible. So, why do we often design services assuming people want to "own" the process rather than just achieve the outcome? ✨ At DAY8.io, we challenge ourselves to always start with the end in mind. We don't just innovate for innovation's sake; we innovate with purpose, understanding the job to be done—and finding the most effective, human-centered way to get there. What’s a “job” your customers are hiring you to solve today? #Innovation #DesignThinking #CustomerCentricity #JobsToBeDone #HumanCenteredDesign #EmpathyInAction

In the competitive world of business, many companies find themselves in a "red ocean," battling rivals for market share in a saturated industry. Driven by fear, they often make reactive decisions that intensify competition and diminish returns. 🌊⚔️ But what if there’s a better way? Enter the "blue ocean" strategy—a concept that encourages creating new market spaces, or "blue oceans," where competition is irrelevant. Instead of fighting for a shrinking pie, you innovate to expand the pie, creating value for both your company and your customers. 🌊🚀 Fear-driven strategies can lead to: - Short-term Focus: Prioritizing immediate gains over long-term growth. - Risk Aversion: Avoiding bold, innovative moves that could differentiate your company. - Stifled Creativity: Limiting your team's potential by discouraging experimentation. To navigate towards a blue ocean, consider these steps: 1. Value Innovation: Focus on creating products or services that offer exceptional value, making the competition irrelevant. Do not copy, but create and validate! 2. Strategic Vision: Look beyond existing demand and explore untapped markets and customer needs. Talk to customers about their challenges instead of just crunching numbers! 3. Empowerment: Foster a culture where creativity and risk-taking are encouraged, allowing your team to explore new ideas fearlessly. By shifting from a fear-driven mindset to one of opportunity and innovation, we can transform our approach and unlock new pathways to success. 🌟 How are you navigating your business strategy—are you swimming in a red ocean or charting a course towards a blue one? Did you know that bias can significantly impact our decision-making processes, often without us even realizing it? 🤔🔍 Bias affects everything we do, from hiring decisions to strategic planning. It's essential to recognize and address these biases to ensure fair, objective, and effective outcomes in our organizations. 🌟 Here are some common biases and strategies to mitigate them (there are about 180 more!): 1. Confirmation Bias: Seeking information that confirms our preconceptions while ignoring contradictory evidence. Strategy: Encourage diverse perspectives and actively seek out opposing viewpoints during discussions. 2. Anchoring Bias: Relying too heavily on the first piece of information encountered. Strategy: Deliberately consider multiple sources of information and challenge initial assumptions. 3. Recency Bias: Giving undue weight to the most recent information or experiences. Strategy: Maintain a balanced view by documenting and reviewing long-term data and trends. 4. Affinity Bias: Favoring people who are similar to ourselves. Strategy: Implement structured and objective evaluation criteria, and promote diversity in decision-making teams. By being aware of these biases and actively working to counteract them, we can make more informed, fair, and effective decisions. This not only improves outcomes but also fosters a more inclusive and innovative work environment. 🌍💼 What steps are you taking to address bias in your decision-making processes?
