Huge thanks to the wonderful group who joined us for our unique Visual Literacy in Dermatology course!
Reflections on the Thames Were we dreaming or was their really a giant soapy bubble surfing above the surface of the Thames? Her shape shifted, and colours of purple turning to orange shimmered on her translucent surface. After meters and meters of flying, she suddenly vanished. We were standing in front of the Savoy hotel, at the feet of the river. On the far right, the round orange yellow of the Big Bang Clockwork shone her light, and the Waterloo Bridge painted over and over again by Claude Monet was at our left side. The soapy bubbles turner out not to be imaginary. A man standing a bit further away, blew air in them by swaying in his hands two large sticks and a rope connecting them. Connecting the world of colours and imagination with my own world, the one of Dermatology, is what made me and 20 colleagues visit London this week. In the Courtauld Gallery we followed the super inspiring #EADV course on Visual Literacy: is their really crosstalk between skin & paintings? As dermatologists, we often tend to use textbook phrases to match a spot diagnosis. However, when we are uncertain what is the cause of skin lesions, words suddenly may not come easy. By carefully describing some paintings of Claude Monet and Paul Cezanne, our group of dermatologists and residents exercised in translating the painting whilst staying objective. After the enthousiastic lectures of art historians and conservators @Anne Puetz, and @Charlotte de Mille, we were able to not focus on details or get lost in deductions and professionaly find our way through the paintings. Under the guidance of dr @Sarah Walsh and dr @DaviddeBerker, we tested our progress and applied our fresh knowledge on skin lesions and made colourful drawings ourselves. In the printroom and conservation studios, we listened to @NicolaMoorby, @AvivaBurnstock and two of her students. We realized that looking through a magnifying glass and microscope is also very useful to study paintings. Cracks in the painting looked like an invasive tumor, not respecting the lines of original brush strokes. The cross-pollination the past three days connected and spread inspiration and colours, which are their to stay in our minds and work.

Various types of infections can significantly contribute to hair loss, also known as alopecia. Fungal, bacterial, and viral infections are among the main causes. Common examples include Tinea capitis, which leads to patchy hair loss; folliculitis, a bacterial infection that can cause localized hair loss; and shingles, which can result in inflammation and hair loss on the scalp. Timely diagnosis is crucial, and techniques like trichoscopy can help identify these conditions effectively. 🔗Learn more about this topic and explore the latest research at https://lnkd.in/eZV5wwbK
