🌳 Today, as we welcomed the long-awaited weekend, my colleagues from across the globe and I had the privilege of joining Earthworm Foundation Founder, Scott Poynton, for an hour of virtual nature therapy walks. 🌲 Access to nature is a privilege, especially for someone like me living in the suburban area of Jakarta, a metropolitan capital with concerning air quality (ranked the third worst globally 😥 ). A simple walk, intended to be relaxing, often leads to contemplation about what I breathe into my lungs. 🍃 Nature therapy has been proven to reduce blood pressure and lower heart rate. In my daily life filled with to-do lists, as a communications person who spends most of my workday at a desk, it was truly refreshing to virtually experience the greenery on my screen as Scott and the team walked through the forest. Thank you Scott for your guidance and to our HR team for curating various activities throughout June, a month dedicated to wellbeing. These initiatives serve as a reminder of our shared commitment to both people and nature, encouraging us to prioritize self-care and reconnect with the natural world that inspires our work. With over 25 years of experience, Earthworm Foundation is the perfect ally. Starling, a satellite monitoring solution co-developed by Earthworm Foundation and Airbus Defence and Space - Intelligence, will help to improve our supply chain traceability. Traceability in the palm oil supply chain means that we can trace the palm oil product back to its plantation level, allowing us to monitor that the palm oil was sourced without contributing to deforestation and produced in an environmentally and socially conflict-free area. 🌟 Witnessing a murmuration of starlings is one of nature's most mesmerising spectacles. These birds gather in large flocks, twisting and turning in perfect synchrony, creating fluid, ever-changing shapes in the sky.    But why do starlings perform these aerial ballets? Flying in such tight formations reduces predation risk and demonstrates resilience as they navigate challenges such as predators or changing weather conditions. Likewise, supporting #farmers and #communities and strengthening their resilience are at the heart of our work.  It's a stunning display of collective behaviour, where each bird follows simple rules based on the movements of its neighbours, resulting in a coordinated and dynamic display. 🚵 Each bird in a murmuration is a participant and leader within a complex and ever-evolving system. Each has the power to shape the direction and shape of the whole system, to create entirely new constellations.    This natural phenomenon is a reminder of the power of collaboration and the beauty that emerges from unity. Just like the murmuration of starlings, we at Earthworm Foundation believe in the power of collective movement. Watching these birds soar in perfect harmony, guiding each other through new paths, reminds us that change is possible and inevitable when we come together.    Their synchronised flight symbolises how #solutions can spread and scale when we work in unison. 🌾 AgroImpact has managed to unite the supply chain, NGOs, various sectorial organisations, and the cantonal government. This is a great achievement for Switzerland, as it brings concrete benefits for #farmers engaged in the transition to more sustainable agricultural practices by reducing their carbon footprint! 👨🌾 AgroImpact, whose members include Nestlé (Suisse), WWF Switzerland, and Swiss agricultural chambers, is an innovative initiative dedicated to supporting Swiss agriculture and, more importantly, offering support to Swiss farmers in its climate transition to reduce their #carbonfootprint. AgroImpact is now fully operational with a system for farmers who commit to reducing their carbon footprint. Already, 183 farms have signed up, and 12 new members have joined the association, actively working towards a sustainable future. 🤝 We are happy to be one of the founding members and pleased to see AgroImpact accelerate. It was good to be on Reto Minder's farm with the members of the strategic committee of the Earthworm Foundation's Swiss #LivingSoils Program together with Christina Senn-Jakobsen from Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley, Aude Jarabo (Trichard) from AgroImpact, @Wolfgang Sturny from SWISS NO-TILL Till Lisa Casarico from Union suisse des paysans, Urs Niggli from Institut für Agrarökologie (agroecology.science) ltd. and our team Ivanoé Koog, Piera Waibel, Theresa Jacobs Clara Labaste We took stock of the progress made to date by the program and explored synergies between the various initiatives to seek complementarity. We also saw some very innovative practices like an intercropping of #corn and #sugarbeet. 🌟 We are thrilled to announce that our recent stakeholder consultation workshop on 'Creating Positive Change in Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining (#ASM)' resulted in plenty of fruitful discussions and information sharing. Held at Palexpo Geneva during the EPHJ - The World of High Precision Fair, we were pleased to have 27 organisations represented on the day to drive impactful conversations and initiatives. 🔄 We greatly appreciate the invaluable involvement and contributions from all participants. Stakeholder engagement and input are extremely important to us, and we value the perspectives and insights shared during the session. An inclusive and coordinated approach to integrating Artisanal Small-scale Mining (ASM) in the Gold Value Chain is key to bringing long-term sustainable change. 🌱 New Jurisdictional Initiative in the Peruvian Amazon 🌿 In May, key stakeholders in the district of Neshuya (Ucayali, Peru) co-designed a shared vision and action plan to announce a new jurisdictional initiative. The aim is to create a low-deforestation risk area with sustainable production in the context of the EUDR. The workshop brought together the Municipality of Neshuya, agro-producer organizations, and allies such as Earthworm Foundation, Earth Innovation Institute, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Solidaridad Latinoamérica, and Tropical Forest Alliance. The design of the Neshuya Jurisdictional Initiative is supported by Nestlé and USAID, and will be implemented with a landscape monitoring tool and public-private governance.
