🇺🇸⏸️ The U.S. election is putting on pause investments in clean technology as investors and companies wait to see how the ballot will play out. According to Bloomberg, the prospect of a weakened Inflation Reduction Act (#IRA) in case of a Donald Trump victory in November “has stirred up anxiety at climate tech companies,” prompting some to make contingency plans. A change in administration could reshape the climate tech industry, in particular the nascent clean #hydrogen sector, and will make it important for startups to “think through” with the fate of clean tech tax credits in limbo. 👉 But the financial news agency also notes that “the economic benefits of Biden’s climate legacy will likely shield it from attempts at a rollback.” https://lnkd.in/ek9TCiBb

Morocco stands poised to emerge as one of Europe's - and France's - preferred partners for low-carbon energy supplies. Recently, I was pleased to represent Hy24 as part of the official delegation of French politicians, scientists, prominent figures, and entrepreneurs accompanying President Emmanuel Macron on his visit to Morocco, celebrating the strong relationship between our two countries. Numerous agreements were signed during this visit, particularly in the areas of energy and food sovereignty and low-carbon hydrogen development, demonstrating Morocco's commitment to positioning hydrogen as a key driver of regional growth. ➡️ Energy sovereignty Morocco, presently reliant on imports for 90% of its primary energy, possesses all the necessary assets and resources to reverse this trend and transition into a clean energy exporter. The government set the target to extend the share of renewable electricity capacity to 52% by 2030 thanks to the exceptional solar and wind resources of the country. Collaborative efforts with the international community will be needed for Morocco to unlock the potential of this country, which is increased sifgnificantly with the western Sahara's resources. President Macron's reaffirmed support for Moroccan sovereignty over the western sahara should further confort investors in this region. ➡️ Food sovereignty Thanks to its renewable potential, Morocco has the capability to swiftly scale up its hydrogen economy, bolstering its credibility as an export hub and reinforcing both Europe’s and its own food sovereignty. Hydrogen is essential for producing ammonia, the base of fertilizers used in agriculture. Currently, Morocco imports ammonia, which is derived from natural gas, to produce fertilizers that are then exported, particularly to France. By adopting low-carbon hydrogen, Morocco can reduce its reliance on ammonia imports, develop a sustainable energy supply for Europe, and create a carbon-efficient fertilizer base for its main markets. Additionally, Morocco's potential cost advantage in hydrogen production positions it as a crucial energy partner for Europe, enhancing its strategic importance to European nations, including France. Its proximity to Spain and stable governance provides Morocco with a strategic edge for near-shoring initiatives critical to Europe's energy security. Timeliness will be paramount for Morocco to capitalize on its potential. © Ludovic MARIN / POOL / AFP

🇴🇲 Oman is poised to surpass its national production goal for #greenhydrogen, the International Energy Agency (IEA) Agency says. According to the IEA’s “Renewables 2024” report, Oman, the UAE and Morocco are set to “exceed their ambitions by 2030” thanks to fast-rising domestic demand for electricity and potential major investments in new onshore wind capacity in the Sultanate and the wider #MENA region. Oman hopes to install enough solar and wind capacity to power electrolyzers and achieve an annual output of 1 million tons of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030. 🎯 ⏩ The emerging green H2 sector needs to have countries leading the way and which are willing to accelerate the energy transition by increasing #renewable energy generation. https://lnkd.in/ekG-k2Eh

🇩🇪 Germany is helping industrial firms decarbonize via #hydrogen with a €1-billion package of subsidies. The country has recently allocated €2.8 billion to accelerate ⏩ #decarbonization efforts, with support earmarked for five industrial companies that will use hydrogen to reduce emissions in their production processes. The so-called “climate protection contracts” aim at helping reduce emissions in the production of glass, lead, bricks, adhesive tape and forged steel, by covering the cost gap between the use of clean H2 and fossil fuels. 💬 “These contracts provide companies with what they need most in times of transformation and in a challenging economic environment: planning security for their investments,” said German Federal Minister Robert Habeck. https://lnkd.in/eug9CZFE

🇴🇲 Oman is betting on #greenhydrogen as part of a sustainability push to reach #netzero by 2050. The sultanate has recently unveiled a wide-ranging clean energy strategy that involves a plan to sell only zero-emission cars by 2050, but also a particular focus on boosting ⏩ green H2 production. Oman, by setting an ambitious production target of one million tons a year by 2030 and up to 8 million tons by 2050, is increasingly positioning itself as a global hub for renewable hydrogen exports. 🌍 According to the IEA, the Gulf country could become the 6th largest exporter of hydrogen globally and the largest in the Middle East by 2030 — making Oman a potentially valuable partner for European industries on the #decarbonization path. https://lnkd.in/egc73k22

Iberdrola and bp are teaming up to build a 25-megawatt #greenhydrogen plant in Spain. 🇪🇸 The Spanish renewable power company will provide renewable electricity to power the plant, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of BP's oil refinery located in Castellón. 🏭 Set to be operational in the second half of 2026, the plant could produce up to 2,800 annual tons of green hydrogen, helping avoid the emission of 23,000 tons of CO2 per year — equivalent to the emissions of 5,000 cars over the same period. 👉 Another example of how a strategic alliance can contribute to the #decarbonization of the industry using renewable H2!
