First week of racing in the Flamme Rouge World Racing Tour online with Zwift is now complete. This first edition was won by our very own @mikegloyne who gapped his nearest rivals by over 7 minutes to win the General Classification and Yellow Jersey in his category. Mike led from stage two and each day of racing managed to extend his lead completing seven stages overall with over 8 hours of racing. There are three editions in total to this world tour with over 3000 competitors and tonight, Mike will race the third in the series where he is currently just over 5 minutes in the lead overall. Can he win Edition Two and continue to dominate in the General Classification or will he get caught as the Tour heads into the mountains with some very challenging stages not to mention the Queen Stage this weekend with over 1700m of climbing. #nevergiveup #endurance #cycling #zwiftcycling #strength

With race season just around the corner it is the perfect time to start building strength, power and speed on the bike. We are competing in a World Tour hosted by Flamme Rouge Racing on ZWIFT - the home for online training and racing which kicked off last weekend. The Tour will see riders compete against each other in their respective ability categories over 3 gruelling weeks with back to back races and little time for rest or recovery in between. 21 stages make up the tour, covering almost 1000km and over 11,000m of climbing. We are already into stage 5 having completed the 4 opening stages over the last few days. Each stage is incredibly intense and demands that riders give everything in order to win points and gain places on the podium or the overall general classification. With over 3000 riders taking part, competition is very high and it will be interesting to see who can complete the full tour and win the General Classification. Our very own @mikegloyne currently leads in the Yellow Jersey going into Stage 5 of the race today. Can he hang on and win? With 17 stages remaining it is very early doors but look out for our daily story update to see how he continues to perform. If you swim every day in order to try and become a quicker swimmer will it work? In short the answer is NO sadly. Like all sports, repeating the same process day in day out will not make you better at it. This is because the body is constantly adapting to the efforts and when it no longer needs to adapt it stagnates and performance plateaus. It is true that gains may be seen initially but these will tail off quickly. Especially for swimmers who do not have consistency in their swim routines. To become a faster swimmer the first thing to do is work out why you are not already fast. Analysis of your technique is critical in identifying what needs to change to make you more efficient and quicker. Follow drill routines that target your weaknesses. Only by being able to change your technique will you become a better swimmer. Ensure your training has elements of both endurance and strength work. Z2 workouts aid recovery and enable adaptation whilst Z4+ efforts build strength and improve aerobic and anaerobic capacity. To get better at anything you have to do it often enough and be consistent with achieving your plan. Anything less than 3 sessions a week is not going to make you a better swimmer so if you are serious about being quicker you need to invest the time to get better at it. How do you stay focused when it can be so difficult to train? We all have our reasons why today training is not happening which may include the weather being too cold or wet or being on vacation, being too busy with work or family etc. The most of reasons are endless 😅 Like a lot of things in life it comes down to how important something is to you or how much you want to achieve something.
